"Sweet Button" is an interesting name for a restaurant. The decor of the restaurant is very colorful, clean, cozy and comfortable - cute as a button.
Even though it's named as a dessert place, they actually have a full menu of starters and mains, so much so that I found it hard to make up my mind, as so many of them sound very enticing.
I decided to have foie gras terrine with champagne gelee first. It came with 3 slices of crostini. This is probably the most delicious and creative appetizer I've ever had.
Next came the main course - I was debating between Japanese style fried rice with roasted eel and Hainan chicken rice. I opted for the latter. Although it's not the best I've had (that's in Singapore), it's certainly top notch.
I love sweets so if I don't get a good dessert, the meal will not be satisfactory. True to their name, they have a 2-full page dessert menu. I so wanted to try the small combo, but the owner advised me that I might not be able to finish it all on my own, as I was dining alone. Again, among so many enticing choices, I opted for lychee and rose pot de crème. This is crème brûlée infused with lychee juice, decorated with crunchy rose petals that you can crush and mix up with the custard. Besides being a very light and refreshing dessert, the presentation is amazing - the bowl of crème sits on top of a smaller pot filled with dry ice and rose water. As a result, the dry ice vapor smells faintly of rose. As I ate the dessert, I kept fanning the vapor toward my face. It felt cool and smelled good. This is a really fun way to enjoy a delicious dessert.
Overall, this had been a great dinner experience. The chef also took time to explain some of the foods to me (ingredients, homemade sources...). As a matter of fact, I find the food quality, presentation, and selections better than many find dining restaurants in many North American and European cities that I've been to, and the price at least 30% or more lower.
I'm already planning on going back to try some other menu items, this time with companions so that I can try more of their desserts!
