I was talking to a coworker one day who recommended this restaurant to me. I mentioned this to boyfriend so we decided to give it a try.The restaurant was actually quite busy on a weekday. They had a set dinner for one that costs $498. This included a soup, salad, three appetizers, a main and dessert. We chose that.
Pineapple Cooler ($38). While waiting for our food, we started with a drink. Choosing a pineapple cooler, this was actually freshly squeezed pineapple juice and a skewer of fresh pineapple chunks and basil. I never thought to combine basil and pineapple together but it worked as it tasted refreshing.
Sea Whelk Salad with Chopped Onion, Coriander and Lemon Olive Oil. The salad was part of the set dinner. The dressing was a bit tart. But the salad greens were fresh. There was a generous amount of whelk that was nicely cooked. Not rubbery at all. I never thought to add whelk to a salad.
Cream of Tom Yum with Seafood Soup. The set soup was interesting. Something I never thought to do. It was cream version of the popular Thai tom yum soup. It had the taste of tom yum .. that classic spicy and sour taste, but in a cream version. It wasn't too heavy at all. I quite liked this a lot.
Sauteed French Escargot with Mushroom. First of the set appetizers. This was escargot with mushrooms. I wasn't fan of this much. The escargot was a bit rubbery. The mushrooms were spongy and tasteless.
Rice Cake in Black Truffle Cream Sauce. The second appetizer in the set. For an appetizer for one, this is pretty big. The rice cakes were soft. The sauce was creamy with out an over powering truffle taste. This is a good thing as I hate overuse of truffle.
Crabmeat and Mushroom in a Thai Red Curry Sauce and Crispy Bun. Third appetizer in the dinner set. A great sauce. It was fragrant with so many layers of flavor. The bun was crispy and just soaked it all up. I wished there was more sauce. I started to wonder if we should have ordered curry?
Oven Roasted Catch of the Day. This was the main that went with the set dinner. I just want to say ... for a one person set, this is HUGE. A whole fish was placed in front of me. The catch of the day was a barramundi and it was simply delicious. The meat was fresh and sweet. It was perfectly cooked. It was definitely enough for two people. It came with a chimichurri that was excellent.
Brownie with Fruit. The set dinner included a dessert of the day. This was a brownie and some sliced fruit. The sliced fruit used was some melon. This didn't really work with the brownie. Melon didn't really compliment with this. The brownie was ok. Moist enough but not enough chocolate.
Food was delicious and portions were huge. I didn't expect portions to be so big! The one person set dinner is definitely shareable between two people. If we knew ahead of time, we would have shared the one set and something we'd consider when we return next time. Dessert was ok. Not that great. But the rest of the food was quite good. No wonder it was recommended by my coworker. Generous portions that tasted good.
