I called in about 45 minutes before we arrived to secure a table on a Sunday for lunch. As we walked in, we saw a semi-western buffet spread over a sushi bar table. There were two dressed salads, some deep fried chicken and small pieces of sushi. The entire place is pretty small, with an open dining area of four or five spacious tables and some semi-private rooms. Décor is rustic and minimalistic in an elegant way. Hosting staff seemed cordial at first.

We decided not to get one of those lunch sets that go with the buffet. My partner ordered a 12 pieces sushi set ($400) and I went for a hot pot set with an assorted seasonable vegetable platter  ($180) in a seafood soup base. Plus soft boiled egg (+$10). Both our sets came with a small appetizer, salad, pickles, miso soup, dessert, and coffee/tea. The sushi set also comes with steamed egg. We particularly enjoyed the salad which was a pumpkin mash with walnuts and raisins. My vegetable platter had a good variety and everything was fresh. The major disappointment was with the sushi, which were notably stale and unprofessionally prepared. More details on the food rundown later.

Overall we'd rate service quality a B-. We sat in a semi private room equipped with a little service bell, but when we pressed it we realized the bell rang at the reception table, and since the reception wasn't staffed for most of our meal, we had to physically walk over to the larger dining area to alert staff. This was slightly inconvenient and embarrassing for both the waitresses and us.

Would we come back? I am not sure, given the plethora of excellent Japanese restaurants around the place and my partner's love of sushi. But if you are coming for hot pot only, we imagine the experience would be more than alright.

Sushi Set (12 pcs), $400
Very disappointed. While the plating made the set look worth the while, the sushi were so not fresh we ended up cooking four pieces of raw fish in the hot pot and my partner refused to even eat that. As fish fell off from the nigiri (rice), he also noticed that each piece of nigiri was shaped in a different way. We'd grade this a D-.
