We had a midweek dinner at Curry Leaf Indian Cuisine, on a quiet side street off Nathan Road, north of Jordan station. The place is pleasant and homely, with the wood-panelled walls making it almost feel like a cabin. The staff were friendly and helpful, responsive without being overbearing. The menu is quite extensive, with all the usual Indian favourites, as well as a few less common options for someone wanting a bit of a change. As with most Indian restaurants, there is a welcome choice of vegetarian options here alongside the lamb, chicken and seafood.

We started with panna poori, which was just about the right mix of delicate, crispy, and semi-sweet. If you haven't had it before, it comes as a plate of hollow bite-sized pastry balls, with a little potato salad inside, and a small jug of flavoured water - the trick is to pour a little of the water into the hole in the ball, then eat the whole thing in one go! For my main, I had malai kofta masala, a slightly spicier version of one of my favourite dishes, soft cheese and nut dumplings in a thick, rich sauce. Garlic naan on the side was well-cooked, slightly crunchy as it should be, but great for mopping up the masala sauce.
