Is the time of the year, Chinese New Year! When you think of lunar year, the first activity that you can think of is the temporary Flower Market and the biggest one in Hong Kong would be held at Victoria Park. Therefore, my colleagues and I decided to go to Causeway Bay for dinner and then walk around the market. This newly opened Shanghainese restaurant locates at Lee Garden and it was pretty full on that night. The decoration is quite modern and classy, you won’t feel like you are at the Chine

Couple of appetizers have been served to the table, first will be the Five-Spiced Duck Tongue. The duck tongue might seem and sound gross for foreigners, but it is very common in Chinese dishes. Five spices marinated duck tongue is flavorful and al dente, hence I just keep eating one after one lol.

The second appetizer is Braised Beef with Aged Mandarin Peel, the diced beef was marinated in the dry aged mandarin peel’s broth. The beef cubes are soft and tender, that hint of fruity mandarin flavor is totally appealing.

Up next is the Smoked Soft-Boiled Eggs with Black Truffle Pearl, it was being served with a glass cover and you are able to see the smoke inside. Once the server removed the cover, you can smell a smoky sense from the mist. The soft-boiled eggs carried a strong smoky taste and it got a niche of pepper on the surface, I can say this is one of the best smoked eggs in Hong Kong.

The common eel dish would be the Japanese grilled eel, yet this Honey Glazed Crispy Eel is completely different and will amaze you. The deep fried eel was coated by the sticky and sweet honey, its crunchy texture is a bit similar to eating popcorn.

Down to the main course, there is no doubt that this Deep-Fried Braised Mutton Brisket with Homemade Vinegar Sauce is my favorite among all. If you love the unique taste of the lamb, this is the dish that you cannot be missed. The meat is tender and juicy and its skin is absolutely crispy, also there are some edible soft bones as well, fantastic texture. The whole dish is rather oily, thus is good to eat with the special vinegar sauce to neutralize it.

Another main course would be from the sea, Fried Whole Mandarin Fish in Brown Sauce. Cut some marks on the fish, next coat the fish with batter and deep-fried it, then the fish will end up like a pine cone with layers. After that, pour the sweet and sour sauce over the deep-fried fish. It is quite crunchy, nevertheless it is slightly floury, maybe they coated with too much batter.
