Steak Bar is a place that has been in Central for quite a while and expanded with a second branch in Causeway Bay. I had tried the one in Causeway Bay for lunch but boyfriend hadn't and he wanted to give it a try. As we were in Central, we ate here. Apparently, it had moved from the old location to the corner of Lan Kwai Fong. There are two floors. Menu is in English and Chinese. They offer various sets that include a salad, rice and appetizer. The only difference is you can choose the protein. Some sets include a hibachi grill to sear the meat.
They also have snacks and alcoholic beverages such as wine and beer.
Ordering is by checking off what you want on a piece of paper.
Stone Grill Beef ($178). Boyfriend ordered this so he could grill away as it came with a hibachi grill.
There was a good portion of thinly sliced beef that had a good deal of marbling.
The grill was oiled up with a small amount of butter and the pieces of steak cooked very quickly. The meat was soft and melted in your mouth.
The sets come with a salad and appetizer. Appetizer was cold tofu with sesame sauce. The salad was fresh with a good coating of dressing.
The rice was topped generously with furikake. I will never understand why Hong Kong places add this to their rice in sets such as this. In Japan, I'd be served plain white rice to truly taste the rice and leave everything else undisturbed. I love furikake but this too much clashing flavors in one seating.
USDA Certified Angus Striploin ($258). I had this as I didn't want to get splashed with oil while I ate.
Choosing a medium rare, it arrived as a perfect medium rare. The steak was wonderful. Moist and tender with a strong beef taste. It was a bit on the fat side as the fat was still on the edge of the steak.
Service was fine with an explanation of the menu along with suggestions. We sat on the bottom floor so I suggest sitting on the top floor as it's more spacious there. The bottom floor has a bar area and it was a bit cramped. Food was decent and it does come out quickly. A good quick way to have a steak before heading elsewhere.
