A series of incidents brought this very beautiful-looking box set of macarons to me. I am not usually a big fan of these cute little buscuits, but i do enjoy having some if i see them on buffet tables. One reason is that it is way too expensive for me to buy them a-la-carte; another reason is that im almost sure i will lose my nerve/control if i walk in front of the display and see sooo many macaroons, in various colours and flavours, lying in front of me, yarning me to bring them home....i reg

That is why i had refrained from buying macaroons from retails. But thanks to the bunch of events that had occured, i could at last enjoy the sight of macaroons in my place without having to break my piggy banks and empty them in exchange for one.

What i had is an Exotic Collection from agnès b. DÉLICES - one of the three latest sets to their collections of sweets and chocolates. The 12 cute little buttons came in 6 flavours: Apricot / Banana / Coconut / Lemon / Mango / Orange.

I only got to try two out of the six flavours and i thought they were just so-so. Was it because of their size, or their flavour, or was it something else? I just feel like they werent worth the $ (this boxset cost $210, what the ****?!) at all.

The spotted banana macaron was among the first in the boxset to self-disintegrate. It was then brittle and broke as i removed it from the box. A little moist in the interior, the crust was quite light in weight and broke when lightly bit in. It was of a moderate sweetness-perfect. You didnt have to drink a lot of strong tea to balance the lingering sweetness in your mouth after popping a whole one inti t. But it did not tasted like banana at all, except from a little hint of the distinctive smell of the fruit - but it could have been anything else but banana. Things from the tropical shared a distinctive 'base' sweetness.

My next macaron was a lemon one. This was better as it was indeed sour in a lemonish way. Not quite strong tho, i felt like the sourness could have been stronger.

My mum tried the mango and she thought it was an orange (and i handed her the wrong thing). My dad also tasted the coconut variety and said it was very intensely coconut-ish, but there was something fishy about the jam. It tasted somehow sour and 'it was not the coconut'.

Strange. I am not an expert on Macarons, so i am not here to judge whether these are good enough or not, nor whether there are better macarons out there. But what i really think is that for every $100 you spend on the foods under the brandname, at least $50 goes to the letter 'B' and much less go to the food itself. I had eaten their cakes before and thought they were just average-very average indeed. Same for the small chocolates and this time, its Macarons.

Perhaps my view towards the ambiguously flavoured Macarons would change after trying more of its flavour (three flavours were still untouched in the box), but one thing im sure about is that i would not spend $$ on buying edible stuff here again. If i had to eat id rather buy from somewhere else - i want to see and think that my money had been well-spent on and what im getting is some quality stuff.
