Today, we went to Nagasakayaki for lunch. It is an izakaya style restaurant in Mong Kok.

The restaurant is beautifully furnished in a traditional Japanese style. We were seated in a comfortable booth with curtains, which provided a sense of privacy.

We ordered the salad, which was a refreshing and healthy start to our meal, accompanied by marinated scallop trimmings which were flavourful. Next up were the clam and miso soup; they were quite generous with the amount of clams which were delicious and sweet.

Our sushi platter had tuna, salmon, surf clam and crab stick with cheese nigiri, which were all fresh and of a high standard. There were also salmon and eel rolls with avocado and cucumber, which provided a nice textural contrast with the fish.

We also had a roasted marinated fish with rice, which was crisp and large in size. It was charred but not too burnt, and presented beautifully.

We also ordered the sea urchin gunkan, which was large in size and flavourful but at an affordable price.

Overall, our bill was around $300 only, which was not bad at all. This restaurant serves high quality sushi at reasonable prices and I would definitely recommend it. The restaurant’s ambience was also accommodating, and had a large selection of sake and umeshu, some of which is brewed in house.
