We went for the Sunday Brunch at Tiffin today and it didn't disappoint. The setting is very relaxed with a 3-piece band playing lovely music in the background and floor to ceiling windows looking out over the city. The seats are more like lounge chairs which are very comfortable to sit in but a little bit awkward trying to eat food off the low tables. Foie gras: I'm all about the pan-fried foie gras and it is a pre-requisite for any buffet that I visit. Unfortunately here at Tiffin it is all pre-cooked and placed under a heating lamp which you can help yourself to, but the flavour is really lacking compared to foie gras that is fresh off the pan. The port sauce that accompanied it wasn't as tasty as I've had at other hotels so this was a slight dissapointment - but it didn't stop me from eating four pieces. (I would eat double that amount normally!)

Seafood: The lobster on ice was slightly overcooked for me but the peeled shrimps were sweet and succulent. The smoked salmon was very tasty. I didn't try the mussels and I didn't bother with the crab as they looked too small and fiddly to deal with. The lobster thermidor was cooked just right, with the lobster meat still tender but the baked cheese topping didn't add anything special to the dish. The boullabaise was on the bland side and missing the deep fish flavour. The highlight of the seafood dishes was definitely the scallops au Provencale - huge scallops seasoned perfectly and served in the shell.

Meat: The beef rib roast was one of my favourites of the buffet and went back for two helpings. Perfectly cooked beef available with all the trimmings and a tasty gravy - the only thing missing was a yorkshire pudding. Roast turkey was also available but I didn't want to fill up too much as I knew I was going to have turkey for Chirstmas in a few days! Chicken cordon bleu was crispy, the lamb curry was very good and the thai green curry was tasty.

Dessert: I had my eye on the croque-em-bouche as soon as I spotted it (it's my favourote type of cake) and it fulfilled all my expectations. The choux pastry was crispy, the toffee was prefectly crunchy and the creme patissiere filling was delicious. So good. I also tried the bread & butter pudding, apple crumble and chocolate tort. Sadly the creme brulee did not have the caramalised crunchy top that it should have - it seemed to have melted away - but the custard was pretty good.

Cheese: To finish off, I tried a little bit of the brie de meaux, tomme de savoie (french semi-firm cow milk cheese), gubbeen (irish cow milk cheese) and french blue cheese. All very delicious especially eaten with some of the marmalade and the crusty baguettes.

Service: The servers were friendly and topped up our champagne very promptly which kept us very happy. The chefs manning the food stations were very approachable, friendly and very helpful when I asked questions about the dishes. My only qualm is when I made the reservation on the phone, I had confirmed that there was a 15% discount if we used a HSBC Premier card but they failed to mention that it wasn't available on the day we were visiting the restaurant because of the public holiday (?!). It left a bitter note to a great day so they really should be more aware of details before giving out misleading information.
