It's amazing how fast Hong Kong moves. I go on vacation for two weeks and what do I find? A whole new mall in the middle of Mong Kok!T.O.P. is a whole new mall with a lot of new restaurants. Curious, I went to check it out and try something there. And that something was Aji No Tokeidai. A ramen restaurant chain that hails from Sapporo, Hoikkaido found throughout Japan and overseas. T.O.P. is a whole new mall with a lot of new restaurants. Curious, I went to check it out and try something there. And that something was Aji No Tokeidai. A ramen restaurant chain that hails from Sapporo, Hoikkaido found throughout Japan and overseas. And now they have opened in Hong Kong. Located in the food court area, it has it's own seating area so you aren't really eating in the food court. In fact, it looks more like a restaurant than the usual cramped ramen shops. Plenty of spacious tables.
They have a picture menu so you know what you are ordering. But to order, you check off from a piece of paper. It is in English and Chinese with no 10% service charge.
I ordered the miso butter corn ramen ($85). For miso soup, the taste wasn't very pronounced. The noodles still had that starchy after taste. I suspect it wasn't rinsed properly. The egg had a nice runny yolk but it was not flavored.
The char siu was possibly the worst char siu I've ever had. It was hard and chewy. What was a more disappointing is that they gave me two slices of char siu but one slice was just fat.
Boyfriend ordered the shio roast pork ramen ($87). After tasting his broth, I realized mine was much better. It had no depth of flavor. Just tasted like the stuff I buy at home. His char siu was even more tough to chew than mine.
Boyfriend felt it was ok but he wouldn't be back. I just felt it tasted like something from Ajisen Ramen but it cost more, so why bother being back for that? With so many ramen places now in Hong Kong, it's best to skip on this one.
