[ Choubo Kissaten | 大埔 ]This new Japanese dining experience opened in Tai Po and I knew I had to come ASAP as it’s my favorite cuisine and in my district too! We arrived at 4:45 and the line was empty but I passed by before and knew it would get crowded fast. So we walked around and came back at 5:20 where there was already a few people in line 😱. We got seated at 5:40 and the ambiance of the restaurant excited me for the food. The table was quite small, only enough for 4 people, no bags to spar

We arrived at 4:45 and the line was empty but I passed by before and knew it would get crowded fast. So we walked around and came back at 5:20 where there was already a few people in line 😱. We got seated at 5:40 and the ambiance of the restaurant excited me for the food. The table was quite small, only enough for 4 people, no bags to spare.


Also, we left at 6:45 and there was already a overfilled queue outside 😬. Recommend coming early as the restaurant doesn’t accept booking as of now and must queue.

Omurice with Japanese Style Beef Stew in Red Wine Sauce (日式紅酒燉牛肉蛋包飯) $98


Extremely tender with 4 big chunks of beef 🤩🤩. I could tear it apart with the fork and spoon. There were also 2 big parts of beef tendon that was soft and chewy. The sauce doesn’t have much alcohol taste but a really intense beef flavor.


The egg is so silky smooth, perfect ratio between egg and rice with extra to spare. The outside bits are more cooked and the egg taste is magnificent. Creamy and fluffy. Perfect with the salty and savory Demi glaze.


Inside the omurice was traditional ketchup fried rice, not bland but not too flavorful so perfect with the demi-glaze and red wine sauce. There is also carrots and onions that gave each bite a good crunch with all that creaminess.


The portion was perfect, not too big so we shared another meat dish and still ate dessert but enough for the price.


Served with a mini salad which helped lighten the dish and added nice color and crunch

Pork Belly with Miso Sauce (味噌五花肉) $128


This had two extremely thick and big pieces of pork belly. The meat is tender yet firm, no pieces were dry at all. The fat is well harden so not oily and there really wasn’t much fat, mostly meat. The meat was honestly the best pork belly I’ve ever had, it was so thick and tender that I don’t think I’ll ever stop thinking about it 😅😀.


The miso taste is prominent but the pork flavor is much stronger, was to overwhelmed by the pork to focus on the miso 😅.


Served with shredded cabbage and small potato salad to lighten the dish. Their yoshoku steak menu is a good option for people who don’t want to eat rice or pasta.

Lotus Buscoff Cheesecake (焦糖芝士脆餅) $51 (+28)


The cheesecake is a bit on the hard side when using the spoon but really creamy on the mouth. Perfect with the crunchy crumble at the bottom and lotus crumbles in the middle. This dessert was not too sweet or fatty at all which made it really easy to eat. My father who normally despises desserts said it was so good he wanted to order another one to-go 😅🤣.

Custard Pudding (日式布甸) $36 (+$28)


For those who don’t like really sweet things, this is perfect for you.


The taste is mainly of egg with sweetness as the background flavor. The texture was extremely smooth and silky in my mouth, the top is caramel so it still has sweet elements. This is topped with some whipped cream and a piece of strawberry. Good and simple dessert.

💬 Overall, enjoyed eating delicious food in a very fitting environment. The omurice is so memorable and could be the best omurice in Hong Kong as this fits all the criteria of:


1. Sliceable and separates beautifully
2. Silky and fluffy egg
3. Demi glaze is flavorful and delicious
4. Traditional ketchup fried rice
Bonus + tender beef


The price is also very reasonable for the value of the dish. You can also add any drink and dessert from their menu for $28 each only, if you order a main dish separately.
