I have a friend who always must eat in Tseung Kwan O area as it's near her place of residence. Thus, on our usual get togethers to catch up, we choose some restaurant there. This day, we decided on The Point. A while back, this opened in Causeway Bay and I absolutely did not like it. But a few years later, that location shut it's doors and now they have expanded to many more branches all with positive reviews. I decided to give it another try. Perhaps it had improved since it first opened? This b
This branch is located in the Park Central mall. It's oddly designed as the restaurant seems to be separated into two (or three areas?) all not interconnected. Thus, trying to get service involved a lot of waiting for someone to finally walk by.
Menu is in English and Chinese. They do not seem to offer dinner sets and everything is a la carte.
Soft Shell Crab Salad ($124). This was bigger than expected. The crab was nice and crispy though not seasoned. The salad was ok. Just your average salad drizzled with creamy dressing. The poached egg on top was overcooked and the yolk did not flow. This was a rather uneventful salad.
Truffle Fries ($74). Even my friend agreed on this one. The fries were pretty terrible. Soggy and limp. The cheese was not stringy and gooey. The bits of truffle paste was just scattered about and did not flavor the fries at all.
Slow Cooked Duck Breast Pizza ($99 for nine inch). Sadly, this was on the best item we ordered even if it was a bit odd. The duck was chewy. The dough a bit chewy. And then there was this heavy drizzle of sweet plum sauce that seemed to over power everything. I think I've been having excellent pizzas during my vacation. I need to adjust back to the horrible pizzas in Hong Kong again.
Four Cheese Mac ($136). I love mac n cheese and this? This was horrible. Not creamy at all. The sauce was watery. It literally dripped with liquid. Not one bit of the sauce (if I can call it sauce) clung to the pasta. Probably one of the worst mac n cheese I've ever had in Hong Kong. And probably the world.
Lava Cake ($78). This was a new item so we ended the night with dessert. It looked pretty just like all the food we ordered. But again this was an utter fail. Slicing it open, it was over cooked. Nothing flowed out. Why call it a lava cake if it doesn't lava out? It was just a thick fudgy piece of chocolate cake. It taste fine but it was not a lava cake.
Again I say like when it first opened, what is the point? This place focuses too much on making the food look nice and presentable but every item was just all wrong. Nothing was on point. Everything missed the mark. After all these years and so many branches later, it's still not for me. And thus, I won't be back.
