4 of us went for dinner on April 2. It was my second time to the Optimist. The first time was during my birthday and we had good impression of the restaurant. We were there between 6:30 and 9:30 pm during the first visit. We decided to go the seond time. I made reservation 5 days before and confirmed my 6:30 pm reservation in the afternoon of April 2. Reservation was smooth. However, when I was arrived and seated, I was told immediately by a lady server that I had to leave by 8:30 pm.  I was sho

4 of us went for dinner on April 2. It was my second time to the Optimist. The first time was during my birthday and we had good impression of the restaurant. We were there between 6:30 and 9:30 pm during the first visit. We decided to go the seond time. I made reservation 5 days before and confirmed my 6:30 pm reservation in the afternoon of April 2. Reservation was smooth. However, when I was arrived and seated, I was told immediately by a lady server that I had to leave by 8:30 pm.  I was shocked and told her that there was no such indication when I made my reservation and during my confirmation. Besides I thought my last visit indicated the restuarant was not busy until after 9 pm.

Food was good as usual. Recommended dishes are grilled squid, spanish rice, fried green pepper tapas, apple pie, and chocolate brownie. However, after we finished our main courses, another lady server gave us the dessert menu and tried to hurry us two times to pick the dessert. I was not impressed at all. The restaurant was only half full at around 7:30 pm. We ordered chocolate brownie and apple pie because it said in the menu that apple pie  takes 20 minutes of waiting. However, after 5 minutes, our desserts came. When we finished our desserts around 8 pm, another man server came to us and asked whether we wanted to move to the bar or continued sitting at the table. Even though he sounded polite, he was implying again that we should leave since we finished already. We told him that we would continue to stay. 
By around 8:30 pm we decided to leave because we felt unwelcome after being implied to finish as quickly as possible and leave for so many times. The place was only 60 percent full at 8:30 pm and there was NO ONE waiting. I definitely will NOT come back again and will NOT recommend this place.

直於dessert, book 位時我order咗bday plate, 唸住叫佢寫啲字,點知佢哋送咗一件straberry cheesecake,好好食! 下次唔係生日都會叫! 我哋仲加咗個'Torrija', 其實係taste like bread pudding 嘅甜品

不過我最想食多寶魚,但佢好大條,係for 4個人或以上sharing,

唯有等下次再試啦!


順帶一提,佢哋冇加一,所以自己要預留10%小費。。

男友最鍾意留意有咩新餐廳開張一見D裝修靚既餐廳佢就會好想試咁今次又約埋食家朋友仔一齊黎試下呢間新開既西班牙菜喇Frangi-pani ($48):因為我地早到所以就叫杯Cocktail飲下先估唔到咁大杯cocktail先係48蚊係附近番工又鍾意happy hour既朋友仔記住去試聞落甜甜地,好香桃味飲落生果味好重,原本入面有orange同cranberry juice另外仲有cimarron blanco tequila,呢隻酒我之前就未試過不過做cocktail都幾啱,因為酒味唔會太重,好啱女仕飲Menu花多眼亂,我地都唔知嗌咩食好於是決定叫個兩人份tasting menu ($520 per pax)試下先Tasting menu包starters,small dishes,main courses同dessertsFree-flow bread其實睇開小公主個blog都知我好鍾意食包 (哈哈)不過好多時d餐廳嘅麵包都係free flow所以質素都會比較普通呢間d麵包唔算好好食,因為都有d凍同硬不過今次有少少驚喜,就係終於唔係黑醋點包喇呢到會比2個sauce你,橙色係蕃茄同忌廉溝嘅

估唔到咁大杯cocktail先係48蚊
係附近番工又鍾意happy hour既朋友仔記住去試
聞落甜甜地,好香桃味
飲落生果味好重,原本入面有orange同cranberry juice

其實睇開小公主個blog都知我好鍾意食包 (哈哈)
不過好多時d餐廳嘅麵包都係free flow
所以質素都會比較普通
呢間d麵包唔算好好食,因為都有d凍同硬
不過今次有少少驚喜,就係終於唔係黑醋點包喇
呢到會比2個sauce你,橙色係蕃茄同忌廉溝嘅汁,少少稀
旁邊白色就係mayonnaise with garlic,好香蒜蓉味
兩個醬用來點麵包都好好味,幾特別

Broken eggs “Huevos rotos”:
呢個西班牙家鄉菜入面有:
肉腸chorizo粒,西班牙風乾火腿Ibérico,兩塊太陽蛋同薯粒
哈哈,因為係家鄉菜,所以成個presentation都好屋企
味道就一般,其實似出面D café既breakfast咁
不過用左貴d既火腿,如果塊火腿切開會容易食d

Burrata & Raf tomato
Burrata係用水牛牛奶製成,即係mozarella cheese不過加左cream
所以比起mozarella會更重奶味同牛油味
Raf tomato可以稱得上係番茄界嘅勞斯萊斯 (好誇張,哈)
同芝士係完美嘅配搭
美中不足嘅係份量真係好少,d蕃茄薄到…

Clams “Almejas en salsa verde”
呢個 "clams in green sauce"名符其實,d汁真係綠色
每隻蜆都非常肥美而且完全無沙
醬汁其實係用咗白酒、橄欖油同埋parsley整
雖然好似好簡單,但食落好香好惹味
而且個汁令蜆食落更甜,讚!

我地掛住食,食咗一半先記得影相
雖然張相睇落好黑好醜樣,但其實超好食
八爪魚彈牙得黎又唔會咬唔開
Menu講嘅ajada sauce係西班牙用好常用喺海鮮度既調味
大致上就係garlic sauce加paprika
個汁夾埋八爪魚本身既鮮,真係好配合好好食!!

採用咗tenderloin fillet,即係牛腰嘅部位嚟做呢道菜
我哋要求5成熟,煮出黎都啱啱好
牛肉本身質素好好,食落好嫩好重牛味
個potato gratin有幾層,因為落好多牛油既關係
薯仔好香同好滑
除咗常見嘅whole grain mustard之外,仲有提供一個自家調嘅醬
雖然唔知個醬係咩名堂,不過好重pepper味
食落又香又辣,配埋牛肉我地都好鍾意!

呢個巨型海鮮拼盤有小龍蝦、青口、蜆、虎蝦、加拿大龍蝦、西班牙紅蝦等等,全部都非常新鮮,真係好似去左fish market咁
全部野都係即捉即食咁鮮甜

奶布甸睇落好似好多坑紋
但其實食落口係好滑架
配埋d檸檬醬,唔會太甜
成個感覺好清新
D味道既平衡做得好好
聽講呢度其實都係pirata集團旗下嘅餐廳
(頂樓地下都被佢玩晒..哈哈)
唔怪得知d質素咁好
雖然個價錢係有d貴
不過每一個菜既用料,配搭同烹調
都真係做得好好,對得住呢個價錢
而且食左咁多海鮮,其實都合理
會再搵機會嚟試下其他嘢

Date night at The Optimist! It's been a while since J and I have tried anything new together recently so I decided to make a reservation for dinner at this newly opened Spanish restaurant one night. The location on Hennessy Road is bustling but once you step inside, you feel like you've been transported to a different place with its chic and trendy bar on the ground floor, main dining room on the first floor and private dining on the second floor. From the team behind Pirata, The Optimist focuses on Northern Spanish cuisine where diners can select fresh seafood and meat to be grilled so don't expect paellas or tapas here. I quite liked the casual ambiance here actually while the service was very friendly as well. The menu is a la carte with many options for appetizers, seafood and meat so it's best to come with a large group if you want to try more things.

The complimentary bread was not warm and came with 2 dips - sour cream and tomato. We liked the sour cream but thought that the tomato was a bit too runny.

Broken Eggs "Huevos Rotos" (HK$80) with Iberico ham, chorizo, potatoes and eggs, and I was told to break the yolk and mix it all up. Flavors were rather one dimensional and probably could have used more eggs and less potatoes. The potatoes could have used more texture such as making the edges or outside more crispy so it can provide more contrast as well.

Grilled Octopus (HK$220) with potato, garlic and ajada sauce. The texture was definitely on point with a chargrilled crispy exterior while still tender on the inside but the flavors were rather bland and not flavorful enough. I love grilled octopus and this was just lacking the oomph to make this a home run.

Entrecote (HK$450) - 21 days aged Spanish rib eye with potatoes and vegetables. We had asked for the beef to be cooked medium rare and it arrived more like medium which was okay too. The only thing was that the beef was a bit too oily which made it hard to finish it all between the 2 of us.

I was really looking forward to the Alfredo's Warm Apple Pie (HK$95) with puff pastry, green apple and vanilla sauce and while the puff pastry was flaky and crispy, the apple flavor wasn't pronounced enough as the apple slices were probably too thin.

Verdict - in general, I thought the food was alright but not particularly impressive. I did liked the dining experience and there's always a thrill with trying something new so the half glass full in me would say that The Optimist is worth a try at least once as it does offer a new dining experience in the heart of Wan Chai.

呢間西班牙餐廳都唔錯,個環境同Service 都真係好好,點菜時大部份都係由老板自己點。個Tuna Tataki 個汁好杏仁霜Feel. 不過Combine 埋一齊又幾好食。個Broken egg 就一般啦,可能選擇 Ham broken egg 會好食啲到最後西班牙牛肉肉味好夠,個Gratin potato 真係perfect

某日街中遊盪經過,看見這裡開了新餐廳,從廚窗往內看,裝潢頗特別兼相當吸引(相比左鄰右里的店舖),所以今日約齊同事一同到來「試新嘢」。餐廳內部給人的感覺非常舒服,店員安排我們的位置在窗邊梳化位。坐在放置了咕臣的梳化上,四週更掛了不少盆景,襯托著少許從窗外射進來的陽光,綠意盎然,在這種環境下進餐,心情輕省暢快。這裡主打西班牙菜,當然不少得西班牙小食(Tapas)。可能是午市的關係,可選擇的款式,比起被放在這網站上的餐牌圖片少得多,就連主菜也主要是三文治類。Ensaladilla Rusa(單看名稱,真不知原來是西班牙小食),在幾款我們點了的小食之中,我最愛這個。吞拿魚、蛋黃醬,加上少許薯蓉攪匀,非常好吃。Ham Croquettes,十分香口,已經攪碎的火腿,再加了薯蓉(可能是),軟綿綿、熱烘烘的十分好吃。Eggplant Fries,並不特別,就是簡簡單單把茄子切條再炸。主菜我點了Steak Sandwich,這裡用roast beef做饀,但我覺得它過熟了點,變得入口硬了些,但還算可以的。整體上,還是Tapas好吃,其他真的很一般啦~

,其他真的很一般啦~

題外話/補充資料: 為我們點餐的女服務員態度親切,非常不錯。但整體上的服務就一般啦,因為我們舉手舉了很久也沒有服務員回應,這是香港人極不習慣的服務水平。

Ensaladiller Rusa 是以吞拿魚蛋黃醬、薯仔、紅蘿蔔、雞蛋、胡椒等磨蓉混製而成,成品有點似用來塗麵包的呑拿魚沙律醬料。因薯泥當中還留有少量薯粒,軟滑食感中還留下一點口感,味道帶酸醒胃,不俗。

主菜要了一客 Club Sandwich , 餡料有燒雞、煙肉、生菜、蕃茄、雞蛋等等,全部夾層製作薄薄的,食味發揮平均。每片麵包皆先經烤烘,理論上更為油潤脆香,但實際那份脆感不甚明顯。至於作為伴菜的薯條,明顯出菜時已閒置了一段時間,腍身欠脆又不熱,不合菜式所定價錢的應有水準。

甜品 Flan ,其實即是西式的燉蛋,質感比較「企身」又留有少許滑感。因甜品蛋香輕甜感重,廚師特意配上檸檬醬汁,以酸香味道平衡那份濃甜感覺。至於面上的杏仁脆餅,與下方的燉蛋來多一個脆軟口感的對比,令菜式食感更豐富。

最後一談服務,店員人數雖看似不少,但當你要找他們時總要花點時間。主動幫忙欠奉,唯獨是前後三次查詢會否點選飲料做得比較積極。筆者曾要求店員送上數杯清水,但最後亦無了下文... 另外,餐廳上菜速度亦慢,如他們的預期食客群是附近工作的人的話,也需留意。店舖明言不收加一,所有小費盡歸店員,但筆者實在是提不起勁多給額外小費吧!

一面燒約12分鐘 翻轉後再燒10分鐘

I came here on a typhoon evening and the chef was literally cooking up a storm. There was good vibe here even it was pouring outside. The owner is very ambitious as the restaurant occupies three floors, with an intimate bar stacked at the ground floor, and two levels of dining area above. The design is beautifully done like a summer garden house in Northern Spain.The team is very energetic and the service is top notch. If you are lucky like tonight, you will be served by the two owners personall

The team is very energetic and the service is top notch. If you are lucky like tonight, you will be served by the two owners personally. The menu is not extensive but concise with items including tapas and grills:
Ham croquettes- The batter is crispy and light. The inside is filled with Creamy béchamel and iberico bits. It is a good dish to start the meal.
Tuna tataki- The tuna is soaked in almond soup and it turned the dish alive. The almond and the tuna goes surprisingly well. Excellent.
Calamari-This is Andalusian style as there is no egg in the flour. The batter is thin and crispy and the squid (thinly sliced) is retained the ideal moisture and the freshness.
Seafood rice- this is not a paella so the rice is quite wet. But it has plenty of seafood and the shrimps are big and fresh. Flavorful.
The overall experience is gratifying. I have to give full credits to the owners for their efforts. The location is not prime Central and to do something in this scale requires faith. I am sure that this new establishment will draw crowds and bring new life to the quiet night scene of Wanchai.
