利東利拆了之後,卻在灣仔的中心重建了一條,更是豪華。商店林立,讓人感覺得像到了一個城市綠洲。在轉角的不起眼位有一間餐廳,正好肚餓,也就進去試一試了。食物和飲品都不算很多。餐廳有戶外吸煙座,因此不吸煙的朋友也會聞到煙味,是唯一餐廳的缺點。先是點了一客烤雞扒飯。雞扒的分量很多,太概也有兩塊的雞扒。烤得十分香軟嫩滑,油份也很足夠。醬汁是較為辣的瑪沙拉咖哩汁,香料味道十分濃厚,餸飯一流。小吃當然也是要叫,免治雞肉串。用上了香茅作棒,令雞肉串充滿了香茅的味道。雞肉軟淋,中間略有軟骨,增加了口感。

先是點了一客烤雞扒飯。雞扒的分量很多,太概也有兩塊的雞扒。烤得十分香軟嫩滑,油份也很足夠。醬汁是較為辣的瑪沙拉咖哩汁,香料味道十分濃厚,餸飯一流。

小吃當然也是要叫,免治雞肉串。用上了香茅作棒,令雞肉串充滿了香茅的味道。雞肉軟淋,中間略有軟骨,增加了口感。

唔知有冇巴絲好似foodki咁,其實好鍾意食雞翼,但有時又會嫌"略"骨麻煩。而呢到既無骨既雞翼真係好食。呢到既雞大大件,同平時食既雞翼肉一樣咁嫩滑,好Juicy,成舊食都咪話唔爽。而且環境都真係幾舒服。

自從利東街重建之後都係第一次過去嚟頭食野,今日咁岩要買既野係利東街就順便睇下有D咩好食啦~重建之後,環境靚咗好多,商店、餐廳和酒吧都多咗好多。我地就搵咗間有越南菜食又係酒吧的店~La Bo La位於街尾的盡頭,不過大家唔留心睇既話真係可能會見唔到架~晚餐的menu全部都係英文,食物的選擇都多。朋友最愛食芝士,所以One Bite Melty Cheese係一定要點啦~芝士香濃又幼滑,就咁食會覺得有少許漏,只要加埋佢地既藍莓醬就可以中和D味道,食多幾粒都冇問題啦Signature La Bo La Boneless Chicken Wings,無骨雞翼真係好食,大大件,外層香脆,雞肉嫩滑,不過我好喜歡佢地的沾雞翼的醬汁辣辣地,完全要加分呀Soft Shell Crab Rice Paper Rolls,軟殻蟹米紙卷,米紙包住香脆的軟殻蟹、蔬菜、牛油果和紅蘿白。食的時候記得要沾魚露汁,味道會比較清新呀~La Bo La原來下午會有粉麵食,咁下次可以嚟食lunch都唔錯~

一直有聽朋友說,灣仔近來大變天,囍貼街附近日新月異,難得來到假日便和老婆來到灣仔逛一逛!來到灣仔利東街,原來真的有很大的轉變!在新樓盤-囍匯附近新建了一個小商場,附近有很多西式的建設和餐廳。而我和老婆今次便選擇了在「街尾」的La Bo La。單憑門面,是絕對相像不到這是一間越南餐廳,在門外有outdoor area俾人吞雲吐霧,在餐廳內又可以讓人輕鬆享饗,而餐廳的裝潢更像是一間酒吧。而餐廳亦有一個好似係private room既area,放有2張枱,好有私人空間。打開餐牌,食物選擇不多,而飲品menu也全部也是酒精的飲品。問一問待應才知道原來他們的lunch set供應時間已經完結,所以我們只能A la carte。而飲品方面,是可以點沒有酒精的mocktail的,顧客可以隨便選擇想喝的果汁,Bar Tender 會再為你調制。最後我和老婆點了3樣比較signature的食物試下: Signature La Bo La Boneless Chicken Wings ($88) 10/10冇骨雞翼有4個,配一個甜酸醬,雞翼超級的嫩滑,非常Juicy,而佢亦做到真正既冇骨,可以成舊雞食哂,

冇骨雞翼有4個,配一個甜酸醬,雞翼超級的嫩滑,非常Juicy,而佢亦做到真正既冇骨,可以成舊雞食哂,好好味。

Being a devoted (and picky) fan of beef pho, I made a trip to La Bo La for lunch after reading some good reviews about their pho. Since earlier this year, a few hip Vietnamese restaurants have opened in the Wanchai district and I was keen to try all of them. I ordered the raw beef pho and fried chicken wings. Similar to Brass Spoon, you can pick your own ingredients. For the beef pho, the soup very blend and there was not much beef taste in it. Even the colour of the soup looked extremely light.

Being a devoted (and picky) fan of beef pho, I made a trip to La Bo La for lunch after reading some good reviews about their pho. Since earlier this year, a few hip Vietnamese restaurants have opened in the Wanchai district and I was keen to try all of them.

I ordered the raw beef pho and fried chicken wings. Similar to Brass Spoon, you can pick your own ingredients.

For the beef pho, the soup very blend and there was not much beef taste in it. Even the colour of the soup looked extremely light. The portion was quite small. The pho texture was soggy and definitely overcooked. The beef were thinly sliced but quite tender. As for the chicken wings, they were freshly fried but really nothing special. One good thing though is that I didn't get too thirsty afterwards, so the MSG was probably not that heavy (if any). For people who prefer light soup base, this may be a good choice.

In my opinion, if I compare the beef pho of this restaurant to that of Brass Spoon, Brass Spoon wins hands down in terms of the quality of the beef, noodles and soup. Even if not Brass Spoon, there are better choices in Wanchai than this one.

Vietnamese Banh Mi (Vietblnamese Sausage ,Pate, Pickled Vegetables, Baguette), 做型好漂亮,五顏六色,令到食慾大增.法國麵包配上了越色扎肉,蘿蔔絲,內臟,薄荷葉.  酦酸地.內臟是攪溶了塗在法包上,所以吃不出來的,加上了薄荷葉的清新,蓋過了內臟的味道.口感好特別.

吃完了這個包,友人才感到滿足,哈哈.補充完體力後,和友人繼續行程.

這裏因為都多外國人士,所以這裏都有操英文的侍應.每個侍應都很隨和,和很有效率

咖啡 Martini 雖然很多地方都有, 但這裡的賣相精緻, 很有心思; 酒香和咖啡香都很突出, 更帶點點甜香, 愛咖啡之人不要錯過

Mixed berries mocktail ($58) 以茶作基底, 喝下去先嚐到清酸的莓香, 然後就是淡淡茶香, 輕盈沒負擔的感覺, 但莓味可以再重一點

Chargrilled Chicken Rice ($118) 以木板盛載, 很豐富的感覺; 雞扒應該是雪藏貨, 肉質不算太嫩滑又沒有太重炭燒香, 幸好肉汁也蠻多, 醬汁是亮點, 酸甜中帶微辣, 伴飯和雞肉超好吃!! 我和朋友都一直狂蘸醬汁吃

平時好少寫埋飲品,不過呢杯蜂蜜檸檬真係非常唔錯,是日我同朋友兩聲咳,飲完喉嚨舒服d,不太甜,蜂蜜味清香,用以一枝lemon grass攪拌,帶出味道!呢個真係唔係度度都飲到!

The tapas and main menu are available in the evening, while at lunch there’s a set menu offering a range of pho and Thai noodles featuring Vietnamese ham ($62), US raw beef ($68), shrimp, crab and tomato ($68) with a range of additional toppings and side dishes. The pho is nicely balanced, full of flavour and comes with plenty of noodles and some crisp raw onion to add a bit of texture – a tasty and filling lunch.

On the main menu the fried boneless chicken wings ($88) served with Tamarind sauce are lovely when prepared well but sometimes come out overly oily. The hand-shaped minced chicken skewers ($108) served on lemon grass stems have an engaging texture and flavour. The signature ox tongue on rice ($128) and the braised oxtail ($208) are both strong rich full flavoured and filling dishes but might not be to everyone’s taste.

La Bo La gets a lot of things right and it’s a nice place to go for a drink, to relax and grab a bite. It’s just not quite a must visit place yet, but with a little more attention to consistency of food quality it certainly could be.

In fact, I'm frequently on Amoy street (Yu Chuan Club is amazing, plus there's Roundhouse and Chao Chao now) and I never caught a whiff of this place. To get there from Amoy, walk toward Lee Tung Ave, take a right, walk all the way to the end, and it's sort of around the corner on your right. Apparently the pho is now lunch only. One post says, "Due to the high demand for pho, please bear with us that the pho will in the long run be served only in the afternoon on a first come, first served basis." I guess the long-run is now. So if you're going for dinner it's Vietnamese "influenced" tapas.

The menu has four sections: small bites, salads & rolls, breads, and mains. Don't trust every menu posted here, because it seems to change frequently. And don't try their Facebook page: as if they would have a menu.
Shrimp & Avocado Spring Roll

We got two rolls from the menu (only one pictured): the shrimp and avocado roll ($98) and the softshell crab roll ($108). There was nothing to complain about. Avocado is a rarity in Viet spring rolls, from my experience, so this was a nice departure. The skins were the appropriate level of thickness and chewiness. Personally, I've always viewed rice paper rolls as mere vehicles for sriracha, and there is none here, so as-such, this is not a must-have for me.

We got the pork collar salad ($88). I was relatively disappointed in this dish. In particular, there's only a small amount of pork and the vast majority of it is salad. Additionally, the pork is relatively unremarkable. For a contrast, I quite like the pork collar at BEP. The red strips on top were actually bell pepper and the salad was fresh and judiciously dressed.

We ordered the chargrilled chicken rice, but we somehow got the ox tongue rice ($10 more in price, at $128). We could have sent it back, but people were hungry and we just decided to live and let live. The ox tongue was tender, and everything was slathered in a gravy. It specifically reminded me of a dish I once got at the Red Ant Restaurant-- a now-mostly-defunct New Territories chain of cha chaan tengs-- maybe there's something Vietnamese about it, I'm no expert on Vietnamese cuisine. It was a decent dish though, perhaps a little lukewarm.

From the "small bites" portion of the menu, we got the tofu fries ($68). These are deep fried sticks of tofu, crispy on the outside, a little bit creamy on the inside. I thought they were a tad bland. They came only with some small limes, I think they could have used a heftier dipping sauce. Sriracha anyone?
Boneless Chicken Wings

Those first five things were our initial order (for 5 people). At the end, we felt like we needed more, so we ordered two additional things. One was their "signature" boneless chicken wings ($88). This was some mighty good fried chicken. I don't know which part of the chicken it came from-- much much larger than a wing, presumably the thigh. The chicken was juicy and tender, the breading crispy, and they were served piping hot. They came with some sort of sweet sauce, but I don't like my chicken breading all soggy and sweet, they were fine how they were. Best dish of the meal, in my opinion.

Finally, we got the banh mi ($68). I don't recommend this. The bread was soft and so-so at best, and it was dominated principally by fat slices of Vietnamese sausage (i.e. balogne). Again, I recommend BEP for this dish.

Total for food alone we paid $646 for 5 people, so about $130 a head, which isn't bad for tapas-ish dining. We also each had several cocktails, so the ultimate price was quite a bit more. As for making a meal out of the place, I find it hard to recommend. There's no pho at dinner, the main we had didn't particularly impress, and several of the dishes, in my opinion, are done better at BEP, which has the good kind of sriracha. But for cocktails and a small bite or two, I could see recommending this place (get the chicken wings). We all liked our cocktails, and the out-of-the-wayness of the place means seating isn't terrible.

Would I go back? Maybe. Perhaps even probably. I'm near it frequently, often with people who want to go drinking, sometimes with a desire for cocktails. So the probability is nowhere near zero. But I wouldn't go back for dining. As mentioned BEP, but then also Chom Chom, are in my opinion better places for Vietnamese food.

Godbro XO was checking new places for his gourmand group to have their happy hour.  Since he passes by La Bo La all the time, he decided to check out their menu.  While he was there, he saw that La Bo La offers Vietnamese noodles during lunch hour!  Knowing that I'm a fan of pho, he asked me to check out La Bo La's pho with him!We got to La Bo La at 1pm on a Friday, and it was pretty packed!  XO and I managed to grab the last table for 2, so we didn't have to sit on the bar seats with the tall s

We got to La Bo La at 1pm on a Friday, and it was pretty packed!  XO and I managed to grab the last table for 2, so we didn't have to sit on the bar seats with the tall stools.

For a bar, La Bo La had some dainty decorations if you look carefully.  There were flowers hidden towards the ceiling and little dainty accessories on a rack!

They had an ordering form for the noodles where you can check off the type of protein and the various garnishes you want.  There are also sections on the form for snacks and drinks.  I ordered the raw beef pho with an herbs basket and a calamansi soda.  On the form, it also says that there is a promotion where you will receive a complimentary order of shrimp spring roll or soft drink if you like their facebook page.

Calamansi Soda: The calamansi flavor was pretty good, and it was very refreshing.  But, I prefer my drinks to be slightly sweeter, so I asked for some simple syrup, and the server got me some from the bar!

U.S. Prime Raw Beef Pho: The beef slices were actually raw, so that's a good sign.  (I've had restaurants serve completely cooked beef with their raw beef pho!)  The beef slices were pretty tender.  I took a sip of the broth, and it had a pretty good beef flavor and wasn't very greasy!

I was a little adamant on getting good noodles after my recent disastrous pho experience, and the noodles were pretty good at La Bo La.  They went down smoothly and weren't stuck to each other!  The portion was perfect for lunch, and if it's not enough noodles, you could check off +$10 for extra noodles on the order form!

We took advantage of the Facebook promotion, but shrimp spring rolls were not available that day.  Instead, they had this Shrimp Tofu.  The Shrimp Tofu had a nice crispy crust, and the inside was soft and bouncy with its shrimp and tofu mix.

Thanks to XO's discovery, we were able to have a delightful pho lunch at La Bo La!  In addition to a nice bowl of pho, I also had a calamansi soda which brought up my childhood memory of traveling to Thailand as a kid and drinking calamansi juice with every meal!

囍帖街重新出發後,街上引入不少格調食肆。從合和中心那邊過來,街頭左手邊有家隱身在一角的小酒吧,這天放工後相約W小姐在這邊Happy Hour,吐吐苦水。店內面積不大,吧檯一排位置,在加門外門內十張左右的兩人檯,但由於位處街角,所以尚算寧靜。晚上食物主要分成4個項目,沒有午市的湯河,於是我們每個項目都點來一樣。一年半前我和面前的W小姐到過胡志明市,美奈,大叻,和會安,想起那時候青春的遊歷,坐在街邊食湯河,遊走古城,在小沙漠看日出,是我人生難得的好時光。先來一客Avocado and Shrimp Rice Paper Roll($98),我是牛油果狂熱粉絲,看到有牛油果放在菜名上的任何食物我都會希望點上。精緻的米紙卷包上生菜,甘荀絲和米粉,還有那熟透的牛油果,最後把蝦仁放在米紙卷旁邊,看上來傳統小巧,沾上中間帶有魚露味的醬汁,令清新的卷物送上東南亞味道。ToFu Fries($68),在越國旅行時沒有遇上,但把脆弱的豆腐炸成條狀,實在新鮮。原來豆腐是用上乾身的那種,炸完後吃上來有點像豆干,偏乾身。歷外面沾上了一點味粉,W小姐說像麥記那Shake Shake粉的味道,頗有趣。Salmon

囍帖街重新出發後,街上引入不少格調食肆。從合和中心那邊過來,街頭左手邊有家隱身在一角的小酒吧,這天放工後相約W小姐在這邊Happy Hour,吐吐苦水。

店內面積不大,吧檯一排位置,在加門外門內十張左右的兩人檯,但由於位處街角,所以尚算寧靜。

一年半前我和面前的W小姐到過胡志明市,美奈,大叻,和會安,想起那時候青春的遊歷,坐在街邊食湯河,遊走古城,在小沙漠看日出,是我人生難得的好時光。
先來一客Avocado and Shrimp Rice Paper Roll($98),我是牛油果狂熱粉絲,看到有牛油果放在菜名上的任何食物我都會希望點上。精緻的米紙卷包上生菜,甘荀絲和米粉,還有那熟透的牛油果,最後把蝦仁放在米紙卷旁邊,看上來傳統小巧,沾上中間帶有魚露味的醬汁,令清新的卷物送上東南亞味道。

ToFu Fries($68),在越國旅行時沒有遇上,但把脆弱的豆腐炸成條狀,實在新鮮。原來豆腐是用上乾身的那種,炸完後吃上來有點像豆干,偏乾身。歷外面沾上了一點味粉,W小姐說像麥記那Shake Shake粉的味道,頗有趣。

Salmon and Avocado Sriracha Mayo Panini($78),飽面有點乾身,但仍算脆口,中間夾著煙三文魚和牛油果片,顯然是魚味較出位,牛油果在這裡是配角。期待那Sriracha Mayo ,說到底也是我頭3位最愛的🌶醬,不過在這裡只是薄薄地塗上一層,帶出少少香味,但那令人上癮的辣味卻欠奉。

La Bo La Ox Tongue Rice ($128),第一印象賣相好像日式咖哩飯,有趣地把白飯造成長方體,活像飯磚一塊,濃濃滿溢的醬汁帶甜味,是佐白飯的良伴。面頭有炆得淋淋的牛舌片,配搭雖然簡單,但味道很不錯。

雖然是Happy Hour,但我們在意的是回味越南時光,所以一直都在吃吃吃,沒有點cocktail,但店員也樂意送上兩杯白開水,還不定時過來替我們添水,不用主動出聲。

最近睇報紙見到利東街新開左間越式酒吧餐廳,今日放工見悶悶地,就搵左個朋友去happy hour。 7點黎到已經見到間餐廳好full下,侍應知道我地無訂台之後就問我地坐bar台介唔介意,甘我地都係飲下野,所以都無咩所謂。呢到d cocktail 幾新款,唔似出面一般既cocktail。我叫左"Aperol Spirtz"。其實有d似橙汁加梳打水,甜得黎有少少苦苦地。其實個餐牌都有介紹下杯野既材料同味道既。出到黎效果係餐牌形容差唔多。Signature La Bo La Boneless Chicken WingsD雞翼炸到外皮好鬆脆,外皮薄薄一層,而雞肉仲好嫩滑,唔會乾身。另外,有個甜甜地既醬,加唔加都好好食,因為雞翼本身有醃過,所以就甘食已經夠味。D雞翼真係無骨架,所以好方便食,甘香口既野用來配酒,岩岩好。Avocado & Shrimp Rice Paper Rolls本身想叫炸春卷,但朋友唔想食甘多炸野,所以揀左個火紙卷。 米紙好滑,入面包住好多蔬菜,有生菜、紅蘿蔔絲同牛油果,米紙切好一卷卷,甘甘好一啖食曬,每卷都有一隻蝦。米紙卷食落好清新,口感豐富,入面有檸檬葉,比較重味。個魚露

本身想叫炸春卷,但朋友唔想食甘多炸野,所以揀左個火紙卷。 米紙好滑,入面包住好多蔬菜,有生菜、紅蘿蔔絲同牛油果,米紙切好一卷卷,甘甘好一啖食曬,每卷都有一隻蝦。米紙卷食落好清新,口感豐富,入面有檸檬葉,比較重味。個魚露汁比較淡味,配火紙卷都幾岩。

餐廳環境唔錯,係happy hour飲下野食下野既唔錯選擇。不過,呢到野飲無happy hour 價,有就更好啦!
