趁復活節最後一天假期,到港島區慢活一下,看場戲食個晚餐晚餐想找個吃漢堡飲啤酒的地方,兩大心水有位於金鐘灣仔交界的Butchers Club跟Beef & Liberty,兩間都先後食過各有千秋,但如果想坐得舒服一點,帶點型格的Beef & Liberty就當然成為首選吧。晚上八時許,食客不多,所以可安排到坐在窗邊的位置,先點個啤酒,個人較喜歡黑啤,店員介紹了美國Anderson Valley的Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout,瓶裝的黑啤一向不討好,但這種黑啤入口細滑,帶陣陣espresso及黑車厘子味道,不會感到酸澀。漢堡方面這次選擇了羊肩肉漢堡,一向吃牛肉堡的筆者覺得樣羊肩漢堡味道更勝一籌,因為羊味夠濃,亦較為Juicy,筆者喜好放入大量酸瓜,吃起來不會太膩。而額外加配的炸薯條很粗身,外層炸得金黃且脆口,內𥚃很綿滑,配以特色的蛋黃醬供蘸點,另有一番味道。雖然不是像Butchers Club般用鴨油炸,但個人喜歡這裡的炸薯條多一點。數數手指已經是第四次來這間餐廳了,每一次食物質素都非常有水準,真是值得一讚

漢堡方面這次選擇了羊肩肉漢堡,一向吃牛肉堡的筆者覺得樣羊肩漢堡味道更勝一籌,因為羊味夠濃,亦較為Juicy,筆者喜好放入大量酸瓜,吃起來不會太膩。

而額外加配的炸薯條很粗身,外層炸得金黃且脆口,內𥚃很綿滑,配以特色的蛋黃醬供蘸點,另有一番味道。雖然不是像Butchers Club般用鴨油炸,但個人喜歡這裡的炸薯條多一點。

First up, the decor was fab. Industrial chic (can one ever get tired of this description), friendly staff, casual vibe, cool music that's not too loud, that's a winning formula. Then comes the drinks - interesting beers to try out, indulgent milkshakes, wines and plenty others. We paid $8 for sparkling water that's filtered and carbonated in-house and served in reusable bottles, and $5 goes to Hong Kong Cleanup. That's a great way to give back to the community and reducing carbon footprint. Hubby also ordered the Dude, milkshake with a shot of vodka and kahlua. It was liquid dessert with a straw from The Big Lebowski culture.

Then it was the food. The sticky finger ribs were so good we went for a second order. They weren't too sweet which can be a bit sickly, but sticky it was, topped with a few rice crispies that gave a lovely contrast to the texture. The sweet potato fries came with a deliciously garlicky mustard which we asked for seconds and which I licked clean with my fingers.

We tried the grilled cheese and beet salad (and scotched the scotch eggs which the waitress recommended) and we were happy with the crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside cheese. The sweetness of the beets complimented the cheese perfectly.

Then came the mains - we had 3 burgers between the two of us. For a paleo-inclined eater, I always feel a bit left out at burger joints, and I hate wasting a bun. This place made me feel like I'm at home - ditch the bun and get a big fresh salad for an extra $15!! I love it, they really do cater for everyone. I had the Mangalican pork which was oh-so-moist-and-tender-juici-liciously good..... Hubby had the bacon and cheese coz it was a blokey thing to do, then we both decided that, oh go on, let's share a third - a black pepper burger without the bun. Four thumbs up from us - the size of the burger was perfect so things don't spill out when you try and bite into it, the patty was lovingly crafted to the right thickness so it retained the moisture when cooked, and the garnishing such as pickled cornichons and cheese gave it flavour and texture. I have to say that the two swirls of round bacon-y "chips" from my pork burger were divine. I could eat a bag of those, and then some.

That bill could have easily fed a family of 4. We did ourselves proud. And we're going back this Sunday for more. I'm getting the grass fed NZ Wagyu next time, and maybe the lamb burger.... I'm going to dream about this tonight.

蘋果批伴法式奶旦醬~呢個甜品都唔細份架…蘋果好大粒…相信比左成個蘋果落去咁滯…焗完更加甜…侍應仲即場倒入奶旦醬…奶味濃又香…超好味…可是我只分得好少奶旦醬…唔怪之得餵食鬼朋友罕有地主動分批…原來有古惑…早知叫侍應倒多d啦…

Burger is dry. The bun is dry. The meat is dry. No  sauce.And cheese burger that cost over a hundred hkd has only a pathetic slice of processed cheese on it. A mosquitoe was flying around.Texas burger at Tin Hau is so much more better than this and more resonably priced.

列明食物或飲品既款式、價錢及所用材料
清晰明細,揀既時候就冇咁易中伏
而有食物敏感既話都可以大大減少食錯食材既風險
不過就冇圖睇既,中意看圖識「菜」既朋友大概要失望了XDDD自己FF吧!

這是其中一道特別餐牌上既限定菜式,不過我唔知佢供應到幾時啦

炸羊奶芝士球對半切開,分成四面
炸皮係裹麵包糠炸既粗糙外皮,厚度可以接受,十分香脆
羊奶芝士味道濃郁至極,質感香滑得瞬溶於口,沒有結塊
芝士香氣當中不覺有羊奶羶味,相當親和順口

紅菜頭沙律帶酸,固然係開胃菜,同時去除炸羊奶芝士既油膩
紅菜頭爽口得黎冇惹人厭既青味,稔而不爛
其水分讓人忽略炸皮既乾身,未有浸稔但可以令佢食落唔界口

我一意孤行點選既頭盆,因為真心好中意食豬肋骨,係會去買番屋企自己烤焗
不過準備時間長,同埋唔知點解我煮咩都煮到好似中菜咁
明明跟足食譜,烤焗至微焦,用HP醬等等,但個味道都好似食緊中式燒排骨
最後我放棄了,都係出街食算啦……

一盆只有四條豬肋骨,但夠厚肉又頗大件
可能我食開既都係接近兩百蚊就一條細窄既
因此我覺得呢個價可以接受,而友人們就一路呻唔抵食

豬肋骨先用啤酒焗過,啤酒中既酵母有助分解肉筋
食落雖然就冇話好濃既酒香,大抵都揮發掉
但肉質稔軟鬆化,又不像用鬆肉粉咁失去嚼勁
大啖大啖咬落豬肋骨肉都唔會有纖維黏在牙縫,仲係好有肉韌感

店方聲稱用慢火烤焗,個人認為肉感軟身又不乾柴
當然又焗又烤,我冇可能呃人吹到佢嫩過豆腐
表面肉層偏老,近骨位肉質相對較滑,肉味亦更為濃郁
豬肋骨肉頗有肉香,冇雪味腥膻味,帶少許脂肪就多添份油香

外層沾滿酸香惹味既蜜糖燒烤醬
我覺得比平日好重喼汁、HP醬及羅望子味既醬汁,佢已經係溫和左!!!!!
醬汁稠度剛好,酸中帶甜,不會過嗆過激
加不加青蔥也沒有很影響味道,投不進加入位了
友人都抱怨太酸太難食,嗯……也許個人口味分野吧!
又或者佢地唔多係外面食味道帶酸既醬燒豬肋骨
可能食開單純蜜味或辣味,就未必咁習慣

又要講句,佢塊威爾斯羊肩肉夠唔夠威,我呢啲入門平民係食唔出既
羊肩肉製成漢堡扒後仍是充滿肉汁及香氣,完全唔失去原有滋味
碎肉製扒,冇咩脂肪粒,卻是香氣逼人,濃厚個不行!
朋友紛稱羊肉羶味重,惹味香口
可能我自己重口味,又唔夠羶味勁到咁,只覺肉香自然又突出

希臘菜不時都有薄荷成分,就算係其他地方,食羊既話都會有薄荷坐陣
好在薄荷乳酪既薄荷味清淡,乳酪奶酸香味反更顯現
正合我呢個討厭薄荷味道既小子既心意xd

自家製酸麵團漢堡麵包細密氣孔
盡情吸盡羊肉肉汁及油份,以及薄荷乳酪醬汁
單嚐麵包部分就已經食得出羊肉既香味之濃

小茴香既獨特香氣亦有助去羶,更添美味
酸瓜牛油生菜蕃茄既清新則減淡羊肉天然既油脂膩感
亦令呢個多肉既漢堡到胃冇咁飽滯

大堆頭既雞肉漢堡,裏頭夾的是兩層厚身炸過既雞扒
餐牌中寫佢係美國炸雞胸肉……我理得佢美國定咩國啦-__>-
外皮厚薄均勻,金黃酥脆冇得輸
雞肉調味亦得宜,鹹中不失雞肉味,只是……
也太乾了吧?
老老實實,咬落係夠稔夠味,但佢乾到好似情人節孤獨一人既感覺
明明佢都有兩塊雞扒啦,不是偏偏只得一個,那你為何要這樣Dry?

奇榛蛋黃醬其實不奇,佢係一款源自阿卡迪亞既煮食方法
將當地煮食用既香料食材製成調味料,味道我覺得又係好中東感覺
加入蛋黃醬後,多了份豐潤,較易為人受落

麵包都吸左少許濕度,入口更香軟
配上椰菜沙律火箭菜,整體清番少少,但都仲係過乾
始終乾實雞扒又厚又有兩塊,佔量多,未夠使

呢個又係特別餐牌既款式,每日限售30個
黑板上只草草寫下菜式名稱、價錢及「匈牙利曼加利察豬」
沒有更加簡介,又未附上相片
結果我地見到仲以為係重複送錯漢堡
我覺得呢個就係玩神秘既黑暗面
保密到令人食果陣有點不安,不敢肯定自己食出既係咪就係所想既

豬肉扒製成厚厚一塊,肉感煙韌,比牛肉、羊肉及雞肉更有咬口
豬肉稔香富肉汁,豬油香氣濃而不膩,沒有豬膻味,惹人垂涎
配上一片薄脆既醃製煙肉,又是另一番既肉味
僅僅嚐肉,已有兩種不同層次既香氣、味道及質感

中間配上既爽脆蘋果沙律,混合了清甜微脆既蘋果切絲
再者,酸夾甜既蘋果果香遇上鹹香味濃既肉類就更有種對比中的和諧
就算係多多既肉,食時都唔會咁飽滯哽胃
當然有少許苦香既火箭菜都係解膩能手
呢次配麵包食都唔會太乾涸,仲索埋從肉縫稍稍流出既豬油肉汁添!

Beef & Liberty所用既牛肉聽聞係無激素草飼牛
記得家中一本營養學既書籍提及,草飼比穀飼另含有豐富既營養素
維他命B6EOmega-3β-胡蘿蔔素
係會比較健康,至少唔會好似食一堆化學物質入肚

新鮮牛肉餅新鮮在於佢地午市及晚市之前先手製一堆牛肉餅
並非整好哂掉去雪到冰硬又無限解凍咁

今次,我地食到既竟然係……香炸版本!

佢實則將翠玉瓜切絲,跟住當佢係薯條咁炸
味道比一般薯條多添一份清香,一份甜味
只係太過幼身,太過稔軟,炸完都沒有想像中既香脆感覺,食得不夠過癮

這是一個十分香脆可口,賣相金黃吸引的素食漢堡!

鷹嘴豆洋蔥炸脆,外層薄身不油,酥脆可口
餡料當中有墨西哥辣椒,加上芒果酸辣醬,香辣之中滲出開胃微酸既果香
入口不會太過嗆辣,濕潤易嚼,就算係炸得咁勁抽都唔會乾到參口!
另外佢仲有印度香料,連同印度菜常見既酸辣醬,讓整個漢堡味道富有印度風味

炸物點都帶油,食多就好易膩
牛油生菜既清爽和紅菜頭沙律既稔香就大大降低漢堡既膩滯感
特別係紅菜頭沙律,其實參考左Colesaw 涼拌卷心菜既做法
儘管拌入醬汁,但是味道仍是清新既酸辣香,消去紅菜頭既青味,只留香韻

漢堡包身光滑但乾身,內層麵包軟稔帶淡淡麵香
微甜,若果加點烤過既焦香及脆度就較理想

重點真係要趁熱食儘快食,因為炸物係唔等得耐既
尤其係餡料主要係炸過既菜式
由於要影相,同埋食物一次過上左好多,佢稍為放涼後……

又是一道帶點中東風味既款式
事關我都中意食中東菜既,通常食到都係炸球既製法
係香口係惹味,但好易會膩會飽滯,亦都係幾油膩唔多健康既
先前朋友帶我去左上環主打健康食品既Kale,有法拉費小漢堡供應
當時我係第一次接觸製成漢堡扒狀既做法,感覺幾特別又好似冇咁油膩

我地點既係正常大小,望落就好似將果日既素食豆蓉扒放大
只係呢個就似乎比較乾身,而且紥實
咬了一口,果然十分健康!!!!!口裏完全係俾纖維佔據既感覺
雖說是豆泥,但乾身又漿口,不斷不斷默默吞嚥也有點困難
加上麵包一層都係稔身但偏乾,我不應該一併咬下的……

幸好麻香濃郁既芝麻醬以及奶滑微酸既哈里薩乳酪幫了一把
餡料隊伍中,牛油生菜蕃茄兩名成員亦費盡其水分及自然清香營救我
在此,表示對他們的謝意。

講真佢服務算係咁啦,人多但都唔會過分待慢
態度方面……綜觀而言都係合格既
可能我地麻煩,成日揚手叫佢地XD
叫到後期個感覺係輕鬆左,職員過到黎都冇話咁公式咁正色

仲有件事係……我地買左個細細既蛋糕去
切餅費$180,幾乎係蛋糕既兩倍……
仲要收切餅費係不切餅
不過我地幾個分番數,同埋店方幫手雪蛋糕
適時仲好配合咁點哂蠟燭俾到主人公驚喜
切餅費呢家野就算啦!我地著重既地方都係想朋友開心姐

Scotch Egg - HKD68 was an excellent appetiser to kick start the meal, the old English Pork ball made crispy was meaty and flavourful. Black Pepper Burger + Bacon - HKD113+15 was reasonably priced in good portion. The burger bun is a Sourdough made in house, it was made very crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. It is interesting that Beef & Liberty uses sourdough, but I don't like it too much.

The burger combination was great, all flavours compliment each other well. The beef patty was meaty, lean, juicy but unfortunately weak on beef flavour. The sharp peppercorn taste was balance excellently with the sweet onion jam. The ogleshield cheese was flavourful, adding extra kick to the burger. The Wicks English was made utterly crispy, smokey and flavourful.

The Wagyu patty was utterly juicy, tender and flavourful, totally lived up its name. It was cooked right with a pinkish center. The Wagyu patty was however a bit loosely made that the patty fell apart easily. I don't like patty that loose but this is a delicious burger taste wise.

Needless to say that Beef & Liberty has been one of most attracted burger places in Hong Kong, being featured by numerous food bloggers, foodie magazines and received fairly decent reviews. People compare B&L with Butcher’s Club – the Gang previously wrote a review on this and our personal gourmet favorite goes to Beef & Liberty. The one quality we are looking for at burger diners – CONSISTENCY. The dedication to quality & excellence is utterly crucial for one’s dining experience and for any other customer that is looking to replicate the experience every time when they crave for some good food. Beef & Liberty seems to have aced this so far compared to burger fans that have been visiting Butcher’s club not too far away from B&L.
這又是一間標榜使用澳洲黑安格斯牛肉做漢堡的餐廳,價錢方面就當然不便宜。他們的官網上有詳細的餐單可以給食客訂座前參考,挺全面的,因為包括了兒童套餐和素食漢堡,還有各種酒精飲品,所以這裡是很適合大群人派對和家庭聚會的地方。
我們一共嘗試了6款漢堡包。
Australian Angus beef premium quality was used for their meat patties so that is different from the aged beef technique that Butcher’s club use and supposedly, B&L patties should be juicier, here comes the verdict as we managed to try 6 of their very popular picks and dessert! The upbeat and modern decor with high ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows give you a spacious and layback ambience for a view near Admiralty and Wanchai, not really appealing for the inner street view but at least being near Star Street does make me feel classier.

原材料有:新鮮牛肉patty、Ogleshield芝士、Wicks英式煙肉、煙肉醬、酸瓜和自製燒烤醬。Patty稍嫌火候過了,頗乾,Ogleshield芝士是一種英國芝士,它的製法和傳統的瑞士Raclette芝士雷同,易於融化,是做Grilled Cheese三明治的常用材料。溶化後包裹著整個patty,口感柔軟豐盈,但不是一款芝士味很濃烈的芝士。大塊的英式煙肉比一般的要厚上一倍不止,但不會很鹹,煙熏味也淡淡的,口感很結實,煙肉挺特別的,好吃!整體的感覺就是比較乾,儘管我們點的是medium-rare(3-4成熟),芝士味也不夠濃。

Personally loved this one as the extra thick slice of Wicks English bacon made the burger meaty, juicier and slightly sweeter with that bacon jam, complemented with the soft melted Olgeshield cheese. Olgeshield cheese is one type of traditional The patty could be juicer rather than relying on the bacon fat yet it was simply a delightful guilty meal to have for lunch.

原材料有:威爾斯(Welsh)羊肩肉、薄荷乳酪、酸瓜、小茴香(又稱“孜然”)、生菜和番茄。六款漢堡裡面這款是口感最乾硬的,有點可惜,因為羊肉patty的調味是很惹味的,因為有薄荷和小茴香的經典羊肉搭配在內。

原材料有:新鮮牛肉patty、新鮮胡椒碎、Ogleshield芝士、火箭菜和洋蔥醬。這個的patty濕潤度稍微好一些,切開後看得到粉紅的肉色。微量的辣味剛好在舌尖上徘徊一會則散去,連最不能吃辣的Lyoe也能吃得津津有味的——補充說明一下,如果辣度是1到10,Lyoe能忍受的辣度最多去到1.5~2。

This is exactly what we need at a gourmet burger eatery, when I order black pepper burger, I expect the beef patty to be well-seasoned with fresh black pepper and a slightly less stronger tone of sauce to give a variation apart from other burgers. The best part of B&L is that they add a bit of variation to their burgers menu so for the black pepper burger, they added rocket and onion jam to add that flavor complexity instead of regular lettuce and BBQ sauce which you can always get elsewhere. Lyoe munched away with this burger and enjoyed it so it was pretty decent as well!

原材料有:新鮮牛肉patty、墨西哥青辣椒醬、完整青辣椒一枚、Ogleshield芝士和蛋黃醬。我們一致認為六個漢堡裡面這一個的patty是烤得最接近medium-rare的。我們用配備的牛扒刀切開,再上手一擠壓,就可以看到肉汁流出來。 原隻的青辣椒也是不辣的,稍微烤過,所以上檯一刻可以清楚聞到強烈的青椒味。配上微辣微酸的蛋黃醬,確實不俗!

We were all surprised to see a whole grilled jalapeno served in the burger, it was mild spicy and was the juiciest beef patty out of all the burgers. When Gobay lightly squeezed the burger, juice was flowing from the patty! Even though the grilled green chili was not spicy but it gave rather strong pepper flavor that blended so well with the slightly acidic and hot mayo which made the burger utterly juicy and simply enjoyable.

原材料有:素食豆泥、芝麻醬、生菜、番茄和哈里薩(Harissa)乳酪。Falafel本身就是一款中東特色小食,是油炸的鷹嘴豆或者蠶豆餅,通常和其他蔬菜還有香料混合成球狀來炸。這款漢堡也是我們的驚喜,炸得很酥脆,入口有很強的小茴香香味,哈里薩酸奶醬是一種黎巴嫩醬料,哈里薩是一種紅辣椒,這個醬甜酸辣而且帶點刺激,相當開胃。

I have to say that this was absolutely stunning for a veggie burger, B&L’s work is worth praising and the Gang did come back for me just for this outstanding veggie burger. Falafel being one of the most popular Middle East street snacks which is made from deep fried patties of chickpeas and fava beans mushed with herbs like cumin which is a member of the parsley family. The falafel patty was well-seasoned with the right refreshing herbs kick and moisturizing patty to go with the bun and sesame sauce.

原材料有:新鮮牛肉patty、生菜、番茄和紅洋蔥。味道不錯,就是patty稍微乾了一點,不夠肉汁。這裡可以額外增加牛肉patty,每份HKD$58,配料則是每種HKD$15。
這裡有款配菜是番薯薯條,喜愛吃薯仔或番薯的朋友可以嘗試一下,很不錯的味道,加上香港餐廳很少用的英國Tiptree品牌的番茄醬,能吃到番茄茸和較濃的新鮮番茄味,而且不會太鹹,所以極力推介這裡的番茄醬。

Liked how the burger was just simple, nicely put, beautiful. The construction of the burger was optimally well-put as the bun, beef, veggie was proportionally laid on the plate. Bun was soft and slightly buttered as you can apply compression and delightfully enjoy the whole composition in one bite without the sauce spilling over your fingers rather it is the meat juice that keeps you crave for more.

Ketchup with Liberty Fries!
No way can you miss out their England-imported ketchup - Wilkin & Sons Tiptree, this demonstrates a very heartwarming and welcoming twist from the British owners of Beef & Liberty. The balance of natural sweetness of tomatoes and the acidic hint of wine vinegar is profoundly exquisite. Goes so well with their regular cut fries made from Russet potatoes, my fries were all gone by the time I thought about the calories.
Yam fries with Cajun Mayo
Oh my, Cajun! I was thrilled to see cajun majo as one of their specialty dipping sauce to go with "healthier" yam fries. We used to put cajun spice in our poultry, seafood, fries when we lived abroad in Canada yet it is very unlikely for you to see Asian restaurants here to use this heavily flavored spice which is a mixed combination of garlic, bay leaf, bell peppers, oregano, and chili pepper. I always have a liking for sweet-savory food such as salted caramel, sea salt chocolate, so yam fries with the seasoned cajun mayo was just simply irresistible. The only downfall is that the yam fries could be less dry but it is reasonable as sweet potatoes are starchy in texture to begin with so you just need to dip it off in some creamy mayo!

甜品方面我們叫了暖曲奇配奶油 (Warm Skillet Cookie & Cream) 和蘋果批伴法式奶蛋醬(Apple Pie with Crème Anglaise),由於訂位是說明了是幫Lyoe慶生的,所以招呼我們的美女姐姐好貼心地在曲奇上插了一支蠟燭,還請我們吃那兩份曲奇!這是地道的美國美食,軟朱古力曲奇上倒上凍稀的淡奶油,這樣稍微中和了曲奇的甜度(當然還是太甜了),吃起來還是很有趣的,推薦嘗試。
Everyone just indulged themselves with some chunky, chewy chocolate chip cookie served in the heartwarming frying pan (skillet). Benefits of serving the cookie in a warm skillet kept the chocolate chip in a melting form and the cookie crunchy on the edges, this might be too sweet for some people. B&L offers a milky, slightly thin cream that you can pour on the cookie to balance off some of the sweetness and add a bit of moisture complexity to the dessert.

Apple Pie with Crème Anglaise
蘋果派就令人大跌眼鏡,這麼傳統美味的美國食品在這裡卻變成了油膩軟塌的代名詞。

Being the dessert of the day, the apple pie was an utter disappointment though as the apple pie with its crumbling presentation, oily, soggy and overly sugary apple filling. Crème Anglaise as a French light pouring custard made with egg yolk, sugar, and milk with a vanilla scent, it did tone down the sweetness but it did not live up to our expectations.
總的來說,這家高級漢堡餐廳還是值得再來的,無論用餐環境和食物新意還是大部分漢堡的味道都是很不錯的。
Undoubtedly, Beef & Liberty is worth acclaiming as the overall dining experience was very enjoyable - food, ambiance, price (more reasonably priced than Butcher's Club), service (offering free desserts for birthday surprises). As I am writing this review, it is time for me to pay our return visit as the Gang is craving for more. Going to try out their appetizers and other homemade sauces like mint yogurt and house BBQ for dipping next time!

墨西哥的青辣椒Jalapeño:辣味次於Habañero,紅色或綠色,多數用來做醬料。
墨西哥的橙辣椒Habañero:這是世界上十大最辣的辣椒之一,採摘的時候都要帶上手套,而且接觸后必須洗手。它的體型比較小巧,多數顯鮮艷的橙橘色,香味欠缺,辣味卻非常持久。
亞洲的朝天椒(指天椒):中國泰國非常出名,辣味非常持久而且迅速擴散,但比起上述墨西哥的三款辣椒,它還只是小朋友程度的辣椒。
韓國的青陽紅乾辣椒:辣椒的香味很強烈,而且含有礦物質較多,適合長時間儲存。
北非的紅辣椒醬Harissa: 裡面有各種磨碎了的辣椒,包括墨西哥的青尖椒Serrano。
西班牙紅椒粉Paprika:屬於溫和的辣椒調料,和上述的不同,沒有強烈的辛辣感,多以香料粉的形式出現。

公司一般開會都有遲無早,難得今日的早會居然比預期早了完成,便飛快走到灣仔星街找個午餐的好地方。星街的食肆向來多得眼花撩亂,幸好忽然之間,靈光一閃,想起 Beef & Liberty。其實兩星期前也跟同事來過漢堡飽勝地 Beef & Liberty,但當時已經差不多下午一時,又沒有訂座,因此在全場爆滿下被拒於門外。不過慶幸今日時間尚早,恰巧踏正中午十二時,餐廳還是剛剛開門,食神也是第一位光臨的顧客。來到 Beef & Liberty,當然要點合心水的漢堡。論抵食,$130-$140 左右的套餐有飽、薯條和飲品本身是必食之選。可惜套餐只許從一兩款漢堡飽和飲品中選擇,薯條亦不能加錢轉為甜薯條 (其實在餐牌只有$3 之差),感覺有點局限。 經典漢堡, 3/5最終還是決定散叫。漢堡飽點了入門版的經典漢堡,漢堡肉的肉汁都算適中,但肉的鮮味不足,相比 Triple O 和 Chop House 的都要遜色。 甜薯條, 4/5散叫的其中一個原因是想試試這款用蕃薯做的甜薯條。結果果然沒有令我失望,甜薯條入口香脆甜美,加上少許香草後,清甜中還帶點鹹味,不錯! 雲呢拿奶昔, 4/5吃漢堡飽又怎可以沒有

吃漢堡飽又怎可以沒有奶昔。是日揀選了雲呢拿味,味道非常清甜,份量又足料,雖然沒有 BLT Burger 的那麼花巧,但效果同樣叫人滿足。

Going "classic" is always the way to go when trying out new burger places. I think simple fillings will let you focus on the main character more - the beef. The "Classic" choice was plainly with beef, butter lettuce, tomato and red onions. Beef & Liberty has its beef patty totally right! Just beef-y enough and the mmm ummm grilled-flavor. I ordered medium rare thinking that Hong Kong restaurants tend to overcook all their beef, yet this place took their temperature very seriously and literally,

I ordered medium rare thinking that Hong Kong restaurants tend to overcook all their beef, yet this place took their temperature very seriously and literally, so I would do medium at the next visit. I would say I prefer B&L than the biggest/latest hit in town, The Butchers Club Burgers, because their patty was slightly too gamey for my taste (yes, I know, because they use serious dry-aged beef).

My family also shared the Rocket & Mandarin Orange Salad, Sweet Potato Fries [heavenly and addictive] and Apple Pie with Creme Anglaise [fairly large in portion]. They were all homey tasting and great, making me think that any items on the menu were worth trying.

I wanted to make a special mention on the service. All servers were real professional but retaining their chatty, casual attitude. It felt good to find servers that would chit chat a bit instead of just putting in your order and getting food to your table. It sounds like "duh, all restaurants should be like that" but it is rare in Hong Kong.

My mom ordered her burger also in medium rare and found that it too "pink". She thought she could take it but after a few bites, nehhh. We asked to re-cook it a bit further, nicely of course. The server gladly took it back and came back with a new burger awhile later!! And guess what, she took it off the bill!! Ok, PLEASE DON'T take advantage of this but this is the kind of service that keeps people coming back; that customer satisfaction is the key to any business success, even if I'm earning a few dollars less this time.

We then ordered the Falafel burger and the Cheese burger, as well as a side of sweet potato fries. While the Cheese burger wasn't anything special it wasn't bad. The patty was juicy, cooked medium as ordered, and didn't fall short of what you would expect of a standard burger. It just seemed to lack a bit of seasoning and didn't have any wow factor.

The Falafel burger on the other hand was surprisingly good. It was interesting and unexpected which always wins points. The falafel patty was crispy and maintained its flavor. Despite being vegetarian, it was actually quite hearty and fulfilling.

It must be said that both burgers were on the slightly smaller side (in terms of diameter) but made up for it with generous fillings.
The pickles that came with both burgers were moist and had a nice tang to them without being overpowering, complementing the burgers well.
Finally, the sweet potato fries were crispy and well cooked without being greasy, and the flavors combined with their house tomato sauce (not Heinz for once) seemed a cut above regular ketchup.

Overall, although the beef burger was not as good as expected, it was certainly a good meal and would probably merit a repeat in the future.

Definitely my favorite burger place in Hong Kong right now. The burger was moist, juicy, soft, and cooked perfectly pink inside. The sweet potato fries, they made my day. With the special ketchup they served, it was quite an experience. The server was very attentive and personal. Probably best service I have seen in awhile. Did I mention? They gave away a free lemonade for liking their facebook page. I honestly can't wait to go again soon.
