Consistent with the comments of a few other reviewers here, service was horrible.The decor was nice and food was generally ok, but the whole experience was ruined by the poor and discourteous service.

In business, an empty suit is defined as someone who looks the part, acts the part, wears beautiful clothes, has a nice office, but is a complete WASTE OF SPACE. That is exactly what this restaurant is, an empty suit. It is a beautiful space, remarkably decorated, very well done.(although I dont have any idea what makes those walls New York or Italian.) With the execption of a couple dishes that is where the positive ends. This was my 4th visit to 208 and it got progressively worse each time.

That is exactly what this restaurant is, an empty suit. It is a beautiful space, remarkably decorated, very well done.(although I dont have any idea what makes those walls New York or Italian.) With the execption of a couple dishes that is where the positive ends.

This was my 4th visit to 208 and it got progressively worse each time. The service was horrible, the extremely bland food took over an hour to to reach the table. The one highlight is the Pomodori Uovo. Its excellent.

As good as that one dish is, this native New Yorker will NEVER eat there again. I gave it a good try, but the 4th visit was the icing on the cake. what a shame.

Two of us went for a casual weeknight dinner. Sat downstairs (simple menu) because the upstairs dining room was full (quite amazing for a rainy Tuesday night). As others have already mentioned, good but expensive antipasti ($128 for 1, $228 for own choice of 2, $328 for own choice of 3, $400 for chef's choice of 4, +10% of course). Two of us went for a casual weeknight dinner. Sat downstairs (simple menu) because the upstairs dining room was full (quite amazing for a rainy Tuesday night).

As others have already mentioned, good but expensive antipasti ($128 for 1, $228 for own choice of 2, $328 for own choice of 3, $400 for chef's choice of 4, +10% of course).

For starters, we got the burrata with cherry tomatoes (quite creamy and well seasoned, but not as good as the Four Seasons') and calamari with fennel and onions (chef had a deft hand with the vinegar, well-balanced, good ingredients). Overall comment would be that portions are on the small side for the price and presentaiton was rustic (the two were just put side by side in a mound in one plate.

For mains we shared a pizza (sausage & broccoli, $178+10%). The pizza base was great, strong texture, beautifully bubbly, nicely charred, soft and chewy, not crunchy. The toppings were also good, high quality Italian sausage balanced out by some greens. There seemed to be just cheese and zero tomato sauce (different ot what some previous diners have mentioned). Quite pleased with it but would not necessarily like to pay this much for a pizza. Think an excellent Indian place could easily rival the base with a nice soft hot chewy naan at a fraction of the price.

Interior was very trendy, dark, with music booming loudly. Probably ok for a friends' night out but not so great for a date.

Service was good though it felt under-staff when the place became full. The decoration was good, though it was not the quietest place I have been to, probably because the ceiling was low, but it wasn’t so loud that is was comfortable or intrusive.

Finally, portion was on the small side though it was perfect for us, so surely some ppl will complain about value for money.

D.O.C. pizza跟margherita的分別是前者用了新鮮的車厘茄(所以偏甜)而後者是用番茄醬.我很喜歡這個pizza,清新的車厘茄跟濃郁的羅勒,卻又不會有膩滯感.適合夏天吃呢.

因為訂不到位子,於是我們坐在門口那個開放的空間.起初還不覺得熱,可是吃着吃着就開始冒汗了.而且門口對着上坡,車經過是都會很嘈,其實不太適合聊天.室內似乎比較舒服(不過覺得也是有點嘈呢.)

不一定會再來,可是想要記下香港也有這樣的pizza.

We heard about this restaurant through a magazine. It was fully booked, so we decided to order takeaway and pick it up. 1) the 2 maître d's on duty, who took our orders offered EXTREMELY BAD SERVICE - our bill took forever to arrive and we were informed that our 2 pizzas would take 10-15 minutes but we waited for 35 minutes in the end. When we waved at the maitre d' to come over so we could complain about the ridiculous waiting time, she IGNORED US.2) the quality of the pizzas were disappointing

I"m surprised the other reviews, except one, show disappointment but the overall result is 3 Yes ??I went there with 2 friends and we ate downstairs. Anyway, we ordered 2 starters to share, and 2 pizzas.

One of the starter was the sardine shown in another review, and the other starter, i dont remember. We were brought a small plate with the sardine and something else. ONE sardine (at 128$+10%) was quickly eaten as u can imagine. Then I ask the waitress for the other starter, and she replied "oh, you had the 2 starters together". WHAT ?? It was so tiny, in a ridiculous way, we swallowed everything in 2 mouthfuls !! The 2 starters cost 228 i think +10% of course.

Then the pizzas... I just learnt here that they are made in a Naples oven. Great. The truth is that Naples is my favorite city in Europe so I know quite well the food there. Our pizzas were small, maybe 8", and both had the same taste. We couldnt recognize one from the other, in terms of taste, while they supposed to be quite different on the menu. they are bathing in tomato sauce, with none of the herbs and light subtility that make real Napolitan pizzas.

So overall, this place is a joke, for people who need a new place to "i have been", and have money to spend for a tasteless dinner. By the way the music was too loud, or the table too large: we hardly heard each other when talking.

208 definitely stands out in this otherwise sleepy part of Hollywood Rd; Artsy and charming, but inconvenient nontheless. The warm glow coming from the facade of the restaurant is inviting. Walking in, you know that this space has been thought out. Music is a little loud, but acceptable. The menu is still a little limited since the dining room has not officially opened.The antipasti is solid though not the best in town.The pizzas are a hit or miss. The pizzas are a hit or miss. I think they still need to fine tune their technique. I realize they've spent the time and money to import a special oven to create an authentic taste... But when it's not made well, it's not made well. The flavour is good, but when I picked up my slice, half the ingredients just slipped off the pizza like walking on ice in a pair of pumps.

All in all, give it some time and hopefully it'll get better and better.

I used to be a big fan of thin-crust crispy pizzas until I discovered authentic Napolitana pizzas on a trip to Italy last year - I was thrilled to find that you can now find them in Hong Kong - 208 serve the GENUINE stuff !! Thin and soft in the center and deliciously charred at the edges which is slightly thicker. They have a great selection so I will definitely be going back often to try them all!! The decor is great and super comfortable - warm woods, unique blue & white Italian tiles with an oriental motif - the vibe is energetic and feels like being in a cool Italian bar/restaurant in New York - definitely a good addition to dining out in Hong Kong

Waiting for their restaurant level to open soon with a full a la carte menu, but in the meantime, 208's antipasti, salumi and pizzas are more than enough to keep me very happy ...with a bottle of good Italian wine!

That's despite the inaccessibly odd location of the latter, situated along a stretch of street famous for selling Wooden Coffins: its really the wrong end of town to expect an ambitious and new Antipasti & Pizza restaurant to be opened if not for Wagyu Kaiseki Den opposite here. Aimed clientele is much like P.Pubblico, seemingly more inclined towards Westerners especially ex-New Yorkers, whereas truly local Asian faces fill up very few seats here - that's if you could even get a table!

ANTIPASTO OF MARINATED SARDINE (COLD) -
The downstairs area of Duecento Otto is really an Antipasti Bar - it also shares similarities to modernised Mozzarella or Pizza Bars. I expected my antipasto of Sardines to be at least warm but it came a 2 cold 'fredda' sardines, together with spicy Lemon Citronette sauce, plus very refrigerated cold White and Green Asparagus, Artichokes, Sun-dried Tomatoes and Capers. The sauce was refreshingly good, but the coldness of this fredda dish detracts a little because these types of antipasti dishes really ought to be served at room rather than fridge temperature. Sardines surprisingly lacked its associated strong fish taste.
PIZZA: SALSICCIA e BROCCOLI -
At $178 + 10%, you would expect a killer of a pizza - if it doesn't make it up in size, at least in taste and ingredients. This came with Italian Sausage, Basil herbs, Broccoli as well as Mozzarella cheese that's imported from Italy and its proper Buffalo as well. The ingredients were ok-good, the sausage seemed lacking in meaty taste but the buffalo mozzarella was very good. Unfortunately the pizza base was very...... not good at all. Though many people might believe pizzas should be judged by whether it bends at the base when you hold it up, in reality even many authentic Italian or American-Italian pizzas can be slightly soft below due to that thin dough base. This applies to even crisp at the edge style pizzas. But even taking this into consideration, the pizza base here really seemed beyond abnormallflappy and soft, floury - it was also hollow in the middle. This is more like a Pita bread pocket than a true pizza dough base if you ask me. For this price - this really underperformed. My very similarly styled pizza at Domani's bar was a lot better in comparison.
COCKTAIL: LIMONCELLO PIUMINO -
A very good cocktail, made with a Limoncello 'lemony liquered soda' base, fresh Sage herb and Vodka, sugar, topped with a beaten egg-white. Loved it, but for $70 you could stuff yourself silly for the same price at 科記 around the corner!
COCKTAIL: SHERRY COBBLER -
HIdalgo Fino sherry, Pineapple Syrup, Fresh Orange & Lemon. Tried a sip - another winner. Very sherry slightly fermented taste, but balanced by the sweet pineapple syrup but sour citron juices. Cocktails here seem pretty enjoyable and not the normal classical versions only - very recommended!

SUMMARY:
For some reason I was slightly disappointed with the selection of antipasti or pizza dishes available, they were either too run-of-the-mill or uncreative, much similar to those ready-made versions available at Citysuper or Great (with their new Michelin 2 Star Chef shelving selections). And you pay a premium here for eating virtually similar quality, most of antipasti dishes are priced at $148+ to mid $200's for the Salumi platter. The Pizza ingredients were good but not great, the dough base very far away from being a culinary achievement.

This review is for downstairs section only - yes I do LOVE their drinks, but at these ultra premium prices and not even a dessert on the menu, its somehow making Posto Pubblico seem attractive again. Looking forward to trying their Upstairs Finer Dining area when it opens in a few weeks time.
