Gyujin is a very popular all you can eat shabu shabu chain. But like many others, they have decided to introduce a premium line. Enter Gyujin HANARE Premium Label. If that doesn't tell you this is the more expensive brand, then I really can't help you.Located in the newly renovated World Trade Center, the entrance is a prestine white with beautiful trees on the side. The entire restaurant has this same zen-like feel. Located in the newly renovated World Trade Center, the entrance is a prestine white with beautiful trees on the side.
The entire restaurant has this same zen-like feel. It felt more like a cafe.
Each table is set up with an induction stove top for one. I noticed the cupholder is SOUSOU. Now, we're really getting fancy.
Menu is in English, Japanese and Chinese. I came for lunch and they only serve single sets that include a choice of protein, vegetables, appetizer, choice of rice, udon or soba, any drink under $39 and dessert. They also have add ons if you want more meat.
They provide you with two dipping sauces: sesame on the left and yuzu soy on the right.
For any drink under $39, I was pleased they offered orange juice because I really don't like carbonated beverages. The juice was very thick and sweet. Not watery and didn't feel lik it was Mr. Juicy.
There were three daily appetizers (from left to right): kamaboko, hijiki seaweed salad, Japanese potato salad. The kamaboko was very soft. Pretty but not a lot of flavour. The hijiki seaweed salad was good with a nice umami taste. The Japanese potato salad was not good at all. Just too starchy and not enough Kewpie in my opinion.
From the three soup bases, I chose the most interesting. This is the Soybean Tomato Soup served Cappuccino Style. An apron is provided if you need it as the tomato soup does splash a bit when you swish around your food. The foam does disappear after the soup starts to boil. Looked interesting and it did taste very good. The soup was rich in tomato taste and adding the foam made it creamier in texture. There was slices of cherry tomatoes found as well.
The sets come with a plate of vegetables. You get so much vegetables! Corn, four different types of wild mushrooms, lotus root, pumpkin, leeks, four different types of leafy greens, carrot slices. The quality was fresh and varied.
For the set, I chose the Prime Kagoshima Japanese Wagyu ($249). There were six slices, very thinly sliced. So thin, it tore easily. But it also literally melted in my mouth. Even after cooking it for ages, it still was so soft.
I had udon which was ok. I saw some people order rice where they will mix it for you and create a congee. Perhaps I'll try that next time.
Dessert was azuki bean with dango and matcha warabi mochi. There was a bit of syrup on the side for dipping. This was a nice end to the meal. The mochi was soft. A good bitter taste of the matcha went well with the syrup. The azuki bean paste was sweet but not too sweet.
A really good lunch deal. Service was very friendly. The place was relaxing and quiet. Food quality was good. Will be back and try out the other meat along with the other broth choices.
