Met boyfriend on a rainy day after his trip to Tokyo. Of course, after having a week of excellent Japanese everything, he wanted something very Chinese. So, he took me here. This place specializes in handmade Shanghai noodles. A food art form that is getting harder and harder to find. The restaurant is small. Very small. And very cramped. Not much decor. Just your standard old school noodle shop. It was also packed with customers.Menu all in Chinese. Even the shop had no English name. Boyfriend

Menu all in Chinese. Even the shop had no English name. Boyfriend ordered for me a lamb soup noodle. He got himself a Shanghai fried noodle. We shared xia lung bao. Usually restaurants like this serve soybean milk but they don't have that.
The xia lung bao were bigger than other places. Skin was more rough and thicker. But there was so much juice inside, it made up for the non delicate manner it was made.
My lamb soup noodles were huge in portion size. Noodles were nice and chewy. Definitely handmade as they weren't uniform in shape. Lamb was super tough. Soup base was strong in lamb broth but also a touch spicy.
Boyfriend had Shanghai fried noodles. I tried a bit but it was super spicy, I coughed. However, I noted it was not too oily. Boyfriend thought I would have some so he tried to cut the super long noodles with his chopsticks. The waitress came over immediately and offered to cut it with her scissors. Pretty good service!
Place served huge portions for a cheap price. Quality was good, honest and hearty. I would come again but obviously with someone who could read Chinese.
