We ordered three dishes and a lunch set for four ($268). In total, we had twelwe items. Aside from the meat buns, the fried rice cake and the organic greens, everything else was included in the set. What I like about this set was that we could choose every single dish (all nine of them). In addition to the tea, we were also offered soy milk drinks.
For appetizers, we had spicy vegetables, shredded chicken meat and skin, and pig's ear (set). They were not particularly good. Next, came the West Lake Beef Soup (set). The ground meat, egg drop and green onion made for a soup rich in texture. It was tasty!
Let's go to the main dishes now. The Cashew Chicken (set) was cooked with the right amount of time: the chicken was tender and the cashew nuts were crunchy. To accompany this dish, we ate fried rice cake. The rice cake was cooked with salted vegetables, shredded pork and bamboo shoots. I think that plain rice would have best complimented the sweet Cashew Chicken. The rest of the food was yummy too. The Meat Buns were hot and steamy. The Green Onion Pancakes (set) smelled good. The Xiao Long Bao (Shanghainese buns [set]) were nice. Nothing beats the ones made in Shanghai though. For our last dish, we had Lion Head (set), a Shanghainese casserole of oversized pork meatballs. Inside these meatballs, there was a salted duck egg yolk.
As for dessert, it was delightful. The Red Bean Pancake had a golden crisp outside, and a soft and sweet red bean paste for the inside.
All this food for only $436. Definitely worth a visit. Get ready to bring leftovers home.
