原來我叫咗牛肥行街咩?
潮興魚蛋粉
2019-01-11
喺附近返工所以食過好多次外賣又有堂食,點解今次比晒啲牛肥膏比我,老細?其實個品牌越做越好先至排長龍,希望佢哋會更改一下,唔該晒!working in wan chai for a few years and in the past this has not happened before. I like their beef brisket, but today they have given me just beef fat and noodles. I hope they will be more honest for take away customers, otherwise people will stop coming back for dishonest behaviors like this. Thanks …查看更多

Overworked pasta trimmings
Pici
2018-07-26
I had a lot of high hopes before coming here, as there’s been so much buzz about Pici in Hong Kong.I love Trullo in London and was expecting Pici to be something similar in HK!Sat at the chef’s table watching the girl making pasta... I was already concerned, because she’s using a huge mountain of pasta trimmings to re-make pasta. I agree with avoiding food wastage, but this mountain of pasta trimmings looked like it already had a good work out before and therefore the gluten is highly strung. This was true when the pappardelle arrived, it was very chewy... we shared this dish and the meatballs (very salty) and were full, because of the gluten being over worked like hell! The head chef should taste the food before they go out, or have a review with his team. This was a very disappointing first impression and unlikely to try again..! …查看更多

Bargain lunch time special
La Crêperie (鉅芝樓)
2011-03-30
I came here for lunch with my brother and arrived just after 1130am, so we can choose our table. The waitress was right about the lunch time workers due to be flooded in, as the place was heaving just after 12 noon! They have 2 lunch time special menus, the first one is $88 and the other is $120, which allows you to choose 1 savoury, 1 sweet, tea/coffee and the option to add $10 for a soda or $20 for a cup of cider.I ordered the La Marco Polo which had chicken pieces, peppers and Emmental cheese with a side salad as well. My brother had ordered the Ham and Cheese version, which although simplistic but tastier than mine! The chef has added curry powder to the chicken, which made it very strange. I love crepes and had the best crepes in Hampstead in London where I didn't mind queuing for over 40 minutes to get one, but the crepes here are very different to the ones I've eaten in London and Paris. It is very thin, almost crunch and very oily!! As for the sweet crepe, you can choose either butter & sugar or chocolate & caramel. I don't have a sweet tooth, so my brother ate both! The butter & sugar tasted better, unless if you are a chocoholic! The lunch set is definitely very much value for money, but you will need to forget about the calories and fat content!I will probably pop back in if I am in the area to try something else from the menu. There is a theory how set lunches are not the best signature dishes anyway, so I'll give this place another go.p.s. Arrive early for lunch if you can, as the kitchen was under pressure with the sudden flood of customers. …查看更多

Great place for Japanese BBQ
盛八日式燒肉放題店
2011-03-30
This was a great find by my bf, as it's located on the 3rd floor inside Ying Kong Mansion, you will easily miss their big massive banner amongst the madness of Causeway Bay (near the pedestrian crossing to Sogo department store).I haven't got used to the fact that some restaurants are located inside a building instead of the shop floor level, so before the lift's door opened, I had expected it to be sub standard! But I was glad to be proven wrong :)We sat by the bar with our own BBQ oven and went a bit crazy on the order. We ordered wagyu beef as well as another type of beef (can't remember now!), veggie selection, giant king prawns and stone pot rice. Everything was very tasty, as we can cook it to our own taste. It's great fun to cook the food yourself, but I think the fat from the wagyu beef had caused a lot of smoke for my next door neighbour. So if you don't like the smell of BBQ in restaurants be aware!p.s. Spend per head included about 5 bottles of Asahi.…查看更多

Disappointing
芽莊越式料理 (海港城)
2011-03-30
The reviews had been great here, so thought we'd give this a go. The restaurant was very busy as it was still in the period of Chinese New Year, so there were lots of Chinese tourists dining inside in large groups and they didn't have enough staff on that evening. We thought we'll order three dishes first, as the table is very small and we didn't want to be rushed to eat quickly in order to make room for more plates to be placed on the table. The only "ok" dish was the chicken salad, if you like bean sprouts you'll like this as they used this to fill out the dish (well, I don't!). The squid skewers were very chewy, so another dish suggesting they used very low grade ingredients.Lastly the beef with green beans, it's so oily we had to abandon the dish altogether. We didn't feel the need to order any more dishes as it wasn't very enjoyable, so we left and went to a pub instead!…查看更多

Book ahead and arrive a bit early
滬江飯店
2011-03-30
We fancied to venture out of the HK Island for a Friday night, so after searching on Open Rice I have settled on Wu Kong as it has good reviews. I followed the tips to call ahead to book a table and it was fine, the lady was pleasant on the phone. Knowing HK on a Friday night, we arrived 10 minutes early to make sure they know we are ready for our booking at 8pm on the dot.It was very busy at the restaurant, so I was pleased to have booked ahead. We are trying to order just enough for the two of us, as we tend to order too much food and it either goes to our bellies or the bin! The Chilli with Chicken looked nice in the menu, but we were disappointed when it arrived first as the chicken pieces were full of bones or a big slap of skin. If you have tried KFC Popcorn chicken, the chef should improve this dish by providing bite-size full pieces of chicken without any bones or skin. The ratio of chiil and chicken is also a bit of a joke. We had to wait a while until the rice and the beef with green chilli arrived, so we got stuck in. Both were very tasty, but as you can see in the photo the beef dish was a bit oily. Unfortunately the aubergine with minced meat didn't come until another 30 minutes, so the most of our rice was all cold when it eventually arrived. (Again, it was a bit oily for the aubergine dish.)As we had to wait for a while inbetween dishes and that the chilli chicken only had a few mouthfuls, we had ordered an extra dish which was the Shanghai fried noodles. Fortunately we didn't have to wait another 30 minutes for this, but it was a bit oily again and we were too full to finish it, so we got a doggie bag!The overall experience was a bit of a yo-yo effect. Also I am not so sure if this is somewhere to eat if you are very health conscious.p.s. The price per head included about 6 bottles of Tsing Tao.…查看更多

I love this place!
一點心 (通菜街)
2011-03-28
I hope some of the non-Chinese reviewees would appreciate my review for One Dim Sum, the BEST Dim Sum you could ever taste in HK...no joke!Don't be put off by the crowdiness and the Chinese menu...I am not sure if they have one in English, but you can literally point at your neighbours and say "1 of those please". It's all part of the fun when you're visiting another country where you don't speak the language! If you are adventurous and don't mind the language barrier, you will not regret to wait in line for this 1 Michelin Star very cheap Dim Sum place in HK!I brought my friend here (she's English) after her birthday treat in Langham Place, we made sure we arrived after the lunch time rush hour, as the queue was very long when we first visited only a few weeks before then. The prawn dumplings are so big and juicy, the skin was made to perfection as it didn't break when you fish it out of the bamboo basket with your chop sticks. That s a great sign of a master at work! To help those adventurous types, I have typed out the Cantonese pronunciation for you, have a go and you won't regret it!I would recommend to go for the typical Dim Sum dishes, they are all steamedrawn Dumplings = Har-gaauSmall pork steamed dumplings = Siu maaiChinese barbecue pork buns = cha siu baauRice noodle roll ( you can choose a variety of fillings) = cheong fun- Prawns rice noodle roll = har cheong fun- Beef rice noodle roll = Ngau cheong fun- Chinese BBQ pork rice noodle roll = cha siu cheong funThe BEST dish which I love eating here is a bit like the sponge cake you get with Sticky Toffee Pudding, but it's less sweet = Ma Lie GoIf you want to find out more about Dim Sum dishes, just check it out in Wikipedia :)They open until 10pm (I think), if you don't' want to wait for a long time, aim for 2pm - 5pm. Go right up to the door and tell the staff how many people and they'll give you a ticket with a printed number. Even if you can't understand Cantonese to hear for your ticket number to be called by the staff, just pop in and check occasionally. Bring a book/magazine/newspaper to read while you wait, as the restaurant is located in a side street with not a lot going on. I think there is a pub next door, but be careful to lose your place if you don't pay attention to how the queue is moving! How to get there: Prince Edward Exit A. Turn right out of station exit and walk down "Playing Field Road". On your right hand side is the Mong Kok Police station. Take the 2nd left into Tung Choi Street and you should see the queue already. Print a map just in case.Bon Appetit! …查看更多

Time for a bit of re-training
Eat Right
2011-03-28
I've eaten here for lunch twice with my friend and found their food tasty yet healthy(ish), so after a spinning session with my bf we came here for a bite to eat.The food quality is very consistent and tasty every time, so I would recommend those who want to be more healthy you should come here. They have a separate menu showing you the (estimated) calorie content of each dish, so you can be good when you need to.There is an area for improvement for the restaurant owner though, that is the staff training. I agree with another reviewer's comment about the staff service at lunch time, as I assume "the boss isn't around" and therefore the customer service level drops and the staff were a bit slack at both of my lunches. My napkin had a big streak of dirt on it and when I asked for a new one, the staff just snatched it and looked really pissed off. No apology given, which should be the basic level of customer service. The waitress this evening had also removed my bf's empty plate while I was still eating, which I know it's a little pedantic to criticise, but I am not eating a take away at home! If the restaurant owner takes pride on their customer service levels as much as they do on their food, it should improve Eat Right's overall dining experience for future diners.…查看更多

Not "the best hot dog ever" as per Time Out
BRAT
2011-03-27
The Time Out guide has rated Brat as "the best hot dog place in Hong Kong", so we checked it out after a late gym session on a Monday night. It was quiet with only 1 group dining inside, so we sat right by the door, which was a mistake as the smokers' area is right next to us!We chose the Chicken with sun dried tomato & mozzarella and the Italian pork. You get to choose your own bread so we went for a rye and plain white. As for the condiments, you can only choose from a few varieties of mustard and when we requested one to have an extra filling instead the manager said no and didn't provide an alternative choice, e.g. Add $x for an extra filling instead. Oh ŵell, the truffle Dijon mustard was nice for me!As we were starving after the gym, it was very disappointing when the hot dogs arrived but they had got the wrong bread roll with the wrong sausage! It wouldn't have mattered too much if my bf doesn't hate mustard... The manager gave a brief apology. We had to wait for another 10 minutes until the replacement arrived and by then, we had finished our chips and side salad & the extra portion of sweet potato chips! The waiting time is due to the fact that they bake the bread fresh, but it's not very impressive to have had to wait due to their mistake in the first place. The hot dog was served on a Brat branded wooden chopping board, but as we had eaten all the sides due to the mistake and the long wait, the board served no purpose and the overall experience was rubbish. Hot dog should always be served on a soft roll, not hard bread roll!On the plus side, the actual sausage was very nice, meaty and chunky, and they do a 6 pack to take away and cook at home. Verdict: :( Not "the best" hot dog in HK.…查看更多

I went to Ding Tai Fung in TST the night before and it got my taste buds all fired up, I had to bring my other friend to their Causeway Bay branch to taste their delicious siao long bao the day after! :)I had their egg fried rice and siao long bao again, tasted just as good as the night before... Tried their veggie & mushroom dumpling which was very tasty as well. We ordered their red bean bun and it was a great finish to our lunch :)We arrived at 130pm and didn't have to queue which was great as we were both starving! Great service as always, it's really great food and value for money.…查看更多

I've eaten here with my boyfriend about 2 years ago and really fancy their Siao Long Bao again, so brought a friend of mine here for some grub before going out to the shops nearby.I had got a ticket at 7pm and thought I'd go for a bit of window shopping first, as there were still 20 tables before my number. Well, when you do that, they crowd got through very quickly and when we came back to check the number we had missed it by 2 tables already! I thought they won't let us in again, but to our surprise we only had to wait for 2 more tables :) We didn't mind sharing a big table with 3 other couples, so we were happy customers, good customer service. The food was as delicious as I could remember it, although simply made, but I really like their egg friend rice. It is so fluffy and has a gorgeous fried egg smell to it. Not sure about the prawns on its own though, it was a bit too bland. Sorry guys, I didn't write down the name of the dishes! If they would like to improve on 1 thing, I would suggest to endeavor and get the "side" dishes out first and then make sure the rice/noodles are out roughly the same time as the main dishes. It would enhance the dining experience so much more, as food gets cold so quickly with the AC and having the veggies first, then the siao long bao and then the prawns with no rice to go with these dishes was a bit wierd. But I can't complain, because the taste of the food is truly amazing. It got my taste buds going so much that I had brought my other friend to their Causeway Bay branch the next day for lunch!! ;PYou won't be disappointed.…查看更多

Good food, but bad management judgement :(
Nepal Nepalese Restaurant
2011-03-24
After watching the Rugby 10's in Happy Valley, we knew it would be tricky to find somewhere to eat in Soho at around 9pm. We've eaten here before in February and had enjoyed the food, so we came back. We had to wait for 20 minutes for a table while we had a quick drink at the Spot Bar opposite. The food came out a lot slower than usual, probably due to pressure in the kitchen from the large parties already eating inside. The food has not disappointed us, the barbecue duck was the best dish which is worth a try. However, I woke up twice in the night really thirsty and had to drink a lot of water, so probably not a good sign as it suggests MSG is used in the food! The major thing which had spoiled the whole experience was the manager would not give us the Citibank credit card discount as we were $9 short from the total bill! I mean, come on!! A very bad call from the manager as it was a rather tight-fisted treatment and although the food was good, I am not sure if I would like to give them my business again. :(…查看更多

A very nice surprise dinner
鴛鴦飯店
2011-02-21
I had such an amazing time at Yin Yang last Friday, I felt the need to shout about it and set up my own account on Open Rice!I know Valentine's day was last Monday, but I thought the Chinese Valentine's day was on Friday instead so I had asked my bf to arrange somewhere nice for our 5th Valentine's dinner. It was a surprise and I had no idea where I was going and what cuisine it was.It shouldn't be that hard to find the restaurant if my bf had printed out a map, so we had to call the restaurant to ask for directions, but they were very friendly and helpful on the phone. As I have not heard of Yin Yang before, when the lady answered the phone and revealed the name of the restaurant, I was imagining a huge busy Chinese restaurant with lots of diners eating already as it was a 8pm reservation. When we've eventually located the restaurant on Ship Street, which is a quiet street for a Friday night, I was looking out for a massive typical Chinese restaurant entrance with automatic sliding doors. But to my surprise, it was a very discreet Japanese style sliding door (which isn't the main door) and thought to myself "Hmmm, interesting, this is not what I was expected!".As we went through to the dining area, there were 2 other couples and the remaining table was for us. There is an open kitchen towards the back, glittered with lots of vintage Chinese bowls, cups and tea pots. But there was no chef there, so the dining area wasn't perfumed by the smell of cooking. There was a menu rolled up with my bf's name printed on it, thought it was quite a nice touch. As it was a set menu, you don't have to order anything upon arrival, except my bf called me earlier that day with a really strange question.. "Do you fancy slow roasted pork or yellow earth chicken?", I went for the chicken and am glad that I did in the end!For once I had forgotten to bring my camera, so I can't share photos with you here, but if you want to take someone out for a special and authentic Chinese meal, I would strongly recommend it and go and see it for yourself. The presentation is immaculate, the quality of the food (Organic veggies from their farm in the New Territories), the skills of Chinese cooking had blown me away. You don't feel rushed at all because it's reservation only, so you don't have any time pressure to turn the table round by Xpm. The most impressive dish was "Soup without water". Sounds interesting? Go and see it for yourself! :) p.s. I think they offer seasonal menus, so if you're reading this post Spring 2011, it may change!…查看更多
