We fancied to venture out of the HK Island for a Friday night, so after searching on Open Rice I have settled on Wu Kong as it has good reviews. I followed the tips to call ahead to book a table and it was fine, the lady was pleasant on the phone. Knowing HK on a Friday night, we arrived 10 minutes early to make sure they know we are ready for our booking at 8pm on the dot.It was very busy at the restaurant, so I was pleased to have booked ahead. It was very busy at the restaurant, so I was pleased to have booked ahead. We are trying to order just enough for the two of us, as we tend to order too much food and it either goes to our bellies or the bin!
The Chilli with Chicken looked nice in the menu, but we were disappointed when it arrived first as the chicken pieces were full of bones or a big slap of skin. If you have tried KFC Popcorn chicken, the chef should improve this dish by providing bite-size full pieces of chicken without any bones or skin. The ratio of chiil and chicken is also a bit of a joke.
We had to wait a while until the rice and the beef with green chilli arrived, so we got stuck in. Both were very tasty, but as you can see in the photo the beef dish was a bit oily.
Unfortunately the aubergine with minced meat didn't come until another 30 minutes, so the most of our rice was all cold when it eventually arrived. (Again, it was a bit oily for the aubergine dish.)
As we had to wait for a while inbetween dishes and that the chilli chicken only had a few mouthfuls, we had ordered an extra dish which was the Shanghai fried noodles. Fortunately we didn't have to wait another 30 minutes for this, but it was a bit oily again and we were too full to finish it, so we got a doggie bag!
The overall experience was a bit of a yo-yo effect. Also I am not so sure if this is somewhere to eat if you are very health conscious.
p.s. The price per head included about 6 bottles of Tsing Tao.
