Its the first time I visited Heirloom not knowing what to expect. Walking in reminded me of a recent trip to Seattle, where the look and feel of many places were very individualistic, such as this one. I absolutely love it but can see how HK diners expect everything to be normed & may not appreciated a table appointed with an array of designer chairs versus unison chairs from IKEA. There is no plain food but when asked if we could have some plain - someone in our group had the stomach flu going around in HK at the moment - the staff were extremely accomodating. The food was fresh, hot and traditional. There are no fancy extras required for a taco with good flavor, if you want a taco with processed cheese, lettuce, chopped tomatoes, etc. go to Taco Bell. These are tacos as you would find them in the best traditional Mexican restaurants (I understand the owner is Mexican) - a option where you can actually make them yourself may be a consideration for the future.
There desserts and cakes were amazing and interesting but the absolute hit with everyone - including some choosy dessert eaters we had with us - were the freshly baked cookies with milk in a glass bottle. Its childhood dreams reawakened, the only way the experience could be improved would be if they were served in a cookie jar, so you could secretly dip in your hand as in mommy's kitchen!
I will certainly be back. They take bookings only for parties of 6 or more, so it may be for a party...
