Kowloon City has really been modernizing in recent years. This place is clearly part of the trend.....their shop at 2-2A Lion Rock Road has been renovated and they have expanded to an additional place about 8 doors up the street. (Interestingly, the original location was considerably busier on the Sunday night we stopped in.)

Kowloon City is definitely away from the usual gweilo ghettos....I was the only round-eye in the place. But the staff was very English-friendly, both taking our reservation and welcoming me/us. They have a photo-menu in English to facilitate ordering.

Sushi can be ordered by the plate (2 pcs) and also in various assortments. The menu had lots of the usual Japanese specialties (yakitori, etc.) and also some unusual stuff. We had a fairly large sashimi assortment, and the fish was excellent -- fresh and tasty and much better than in most of those pseudo-HK-Japanesey places in Causeway Bay. We also had a couple of veggie dishes (excellent braised eggplant) and some skewers, which were all good.

The beverage assortment was a bit limited, from a Westerner's perspective -- heavier on the fruit teas and soft drinks that locals like, but beer options were both in cans. (And my opinion on the Asahi cans sold in HK these days is that a great brand is making a big mistake -- just as Carlsberg did -- by allowing low-quality breweries on the mainland to use their trademarks.) But anyway....it was nice and cold.

So all in all this was a reasonably-priced, high-quality stop in an unusual part of town. People who venture out to Kowloon City will be rewarded with a very pleasant and satisfying meal.
