A number of vegetarian buffets have popped up throughout Hong Kong. This is a great option for my vegetarian/vegan friends and for those of us who want to do a meatless meal. 素一 (English name : Veggie One) is a new buffet competing in the vegetarian buffet market. Located in Causeway Bay's Tower 535, I was curious as it was close to where i live. I wanted to try it out. So, boyfriend met me for dinner as he may not like eating vegetarian food but it he does love the buffets as they offer him man
The price of the buffet is dependent on when you enter. We arrived for dinner on a weekday and costs only $168 for 90 minutes dining time. I didn't know they had afternoon tea! The price seems like a really good deal!
The space is very large. There are plenty of seats.
The buffet area is at the end of the room. Hot food is kept in a covered buffet trays. All items are labelled in English and Chinese.
There are various types of drink. Both hot and cold available.
They even had a station for hot Chinese desserts.
They had pizza! These were pretty good. I loved the crust.
The most amazing of all is the sushi selection.
They had tempura also.
And a salad bar.
I was curious about the sushi and tried them all. These were really good. Even the rice had a slight vinegar taste. The "fish" really had the fish texture. I love the maki as well. The most interesting was the inari sushi where they used winter melon to mimic salmon roe and it had the exact same texture. I thought it was brilliant. The vegan eel was delicious as well.
This was interesting. A purple potato salad. There was various pomegranate seeds in it.
More sushi rolls.
We tried a number of food but I wanted to point out the pizza was really excellent. And the vegan chicken satay was one of my favorites.
Each table gets a serving of vegetarian sweet and sour "pork". They will bring this out to you. This was actually mushrooms. The coating was crispy and the taste of the sauce was well balanced. Mushrooms gave it that meaty texture.
Each diner also gets a bowl of double boiled soup. This will also be served to you. A savory soup with various items like mushroom, corn, dried longon and almond and ginko nuts.
We ended with dessert and fruit. The coconut milk sago with taro balls were ok. The balls were chewy.
They also had creme brulee. This was clearly not vegan as they do use egg. It was very creamy.
A lot of good variety at this buffet. Price was not overly expensive. The location is close enough to where I live that I'd probably come on my own. You pay on your way out as well so it's very convenient.
