Having a day off after working all weekend, I had lunch by myself so chose vegetarian. Always wanting to try this place as the Soho branch is not conveniently near. Located inside Eslite bookstore, it was full at lunch hour but I still found a table quickly. The set up is interesting. There are a few smaller tables and a long communal table in the center. The set up is interesting. There are a few smaller tables and a long communal table in the center. There is also a bar area for drinks. Lighting was also rather low.
There is a set lunch that costs $128 with 10% service charge. It includes daily soup or salad, main course that changes regularly, daily dessert and coffee, soda or jasmine tea. Upgrades on selected drinks are available.
Todays main course selections were risotto with cashew nuts, mushroom linguine and avocado sandwich. I ended up choosing the mushroom linguine as I don't like cashews and I refuse to pay service charge for a sandwich.
I asked what the daily soup was as I was unsure if I wanted salad or soup. The waitress wasn't sure and had to ask. That wasn't very comforting as I would expect all staff to at least know what the soup of the day was. However, she did find out for me and got back to me quickly with "mixed vegetable soup". Soup it was. I also added a chai tea latte for an additional $16.
Food was fast. I was given my soup within minutes followed by my pasta. All in a 15 minute span of time. Drink and dessert followed promptly after finishing and I was out the door in half an hour.
Soup came in this cute container. Though the spoon was way too small and thin for soup.
Mixed vegetable soup was packed with vegetables. I think there were more vegetables than soup. Soup was a lovely tomato broth with a wonderful sprinkle of herbs.
Mushroom linguine was packed with mushrooms. So much mushrooms, I could smell the earthy aroma. The pasta was nice al dente. And each strand was coated with a creamy sauce. However, there was just way too much black pepper, it became over powering.
The chai tea latte was a disappointment. It was much too milky and no chai spices at all.
Dessert was a coffee pudding with granola. This was quite good. Smooth and light. The addition of granola gave it a nice bit of crunch. Possibly the best part of the meal.
Would probably return but for dessert. I'd probably try a mocktail next time as well.
