Guts Soul Kamameshi is a newly opened Japanese restaurant in my neighborhood that serves kamameshi. Kamameshi literally translates to “kettle rice” and is a traditional Japanese rice dish cooked in an iron pot called kama.We ordered this Dirty Deep Fried Banana as dessert. We ordered this Dirty Deep Fried Banana as dessert. However, it was served before the main. It was amazing though! The dirty part is actually chocolate powder, which is quite sweet. And the fresh hot deep fried banana is so delicious! It’s fluffy and moist instead of crispy. Surprisingly it wasn’t overly sweet. It actually tastes like that monkey banana chocolate, if you know what I mean.

There are 2 stream of unagi kamameshi - gold and silver. And under each stream there are 3 choices, which is from least to most luxurious in terms of texture. My first choice was sold out when I visited at about 8pm, so I opted for this Silver Ungai Kamameshi which is the cheapest one on the menu.
It was dry without the soya sauce for eel. So I had to add it myself. The sauce is available for free in the restaurant, you can ask the shop assistants for that. The rice was soft and round, which was very delicious. Love the burnt rice at the bottom of the kettle too. Eel was good! Meaty and not too oily.
A hot pot of rice is always great for a cool winter evening.
