Was here for my husband’s birthday dinner last night. I chose this restaurant as it has always been on my ‘wish to try’ list as I saw on Open Rice it’s high ratings, not one bad review. There really isn’t many restaurants with zero bad reviews and so I really came with expectations. For the entree my husband chose the beef carpaccio and I chose a smoked quail. For the entree my husband chose the beef carpaccio and I chose a smoked quail.
The cappuccino only had raw beef with rocket and Parmesan cheese and artichokes.. there wasn’t any sauce that pulls the dish together, very bland.
The quail leg was so salty it was not enjoyable at all…lucky it was so small.
We added extra dishes to the course, a smoked salmon and a scallop carpaccio.
The smoked salmon texture was hard and solid and didn’t have any surprise on the smoked flavour…it’s basically the same as any other smoke salmon you could purchase in the supermarkets. A mustard sauce is also not a good combination for a smoke salmon.
The scallop carpaccio was refreshing on the sauce, however the scallop alone was quite tasteless and didn’t seem very fresh. Didn’t have the sort of sweetness and freshness that scallop sashimi should have. Seems like a very low grade scallop with added sauce in hoping to cover its main ingredient’s quality.
We both chose lobster soup with supplementary cost. The soup was flavorful and nice, but not much of a surprise either.
My husband added a supplementary course of beef tartare. He loves tartare, but this was one serious disappointment. This was a Japanese and French fusion restaurant, but this beef tartare tasted sweet with tomatoes aroma a bit like an Asian version of spaghetti Bolognese with raw beef. The colour of the beef was dark and unfresh and was so touch and hard and had bits of tendons in it. It was so off-putting…we had no idea what we were eating there.
Finally was the main dishes. We both had the chef specials $4xx. My husband had the beef checks which were hard to fail dish that was braised in sauce and was soft and edible.
I had the French confit duck leg. The first bite I had was SO SALTY…I did not want to take another bite. It was SO SO SO salty as if the chef just poured a whole handful of salt onto the dish and didn’t taste it. I thought it was my problem so I left it for my husband to try after his dish. He had a blocked nose my throat end of the night and tastebuds were not as sensitive.. he took a bite and oh my god it’s was just as salty for him.
Seriously can’t believe how the chef could serve such a dish. I couldn’t pay $1xx for something like that, let alone $4xx.
Our booking started at 8:30 and we didn’t get our mains until 9:37pm. The restaurant was to close at 10pm and soon they served the main dish we were asked to choose our deserts and was told that it will be out in 5-8 minutes otherwise we won’t have time to finish the meal. I was looking at that duck leg just thinking how on earth do they expect a customer to finish that in 5-8 min and then stuff down a dessert? The service was really quite bad.
Finally to the desert. Again we chose to pay extra for a chef’s dessert for the both of us. It was a hazelnut moose for me and a lemon basil for my husband. I guess out of the entire meal, the only edible dish were the desserts. At least they tasted as they should and decently presented.
Overall the food really is below average, the place was small so was quite noisy, tables were close to each other, service was below standard.
I never really like taking time to make restaurant reviews but honestly I don’t want another person like me to walk into this restaurant with such high hopes only because there wasn’t one bad review.
I regret going to this restaurant for my husband’s birthday and hope to make it up to him again elsewhere. I will never ever go back and do not recommend this place to anyone.
Not sure if prices were the reason why people come here. Was $16xx for 2 person… honestly with all things add up there are many much better restaurants out there for this price.
