Spontaneous lunch. Made reservations. Reservations unnecessary - restaurant turned out to be pretty empty. But fewer diners is good news for us. ^ for your information. Environment:The best thing about Saikou is the openness and airiness created by the large windows overlooking the Hong Kong Botanical Gardens, and the sunlight slanting in quietly. Lots of greenery. Saturday lunches are rather quiet, and if you are in rowdy company, I'd advise you against dining here. Everyone was talking in hush
Environment:
Food:
Lunch sets come with Appetizer, green salad, steamed egg, pickles, miso soup and dessert (which usually means fruit)
Salad: a mixture of greens. Fresh, but not amazing at all. 2 pieces of duck breast perched on top, drizzled with a sesame dressing which tasted like something we have at home, only tampered with. Average.
Steamed egg: average. Eggy and smooth, kind of like tofu fa.
Miso soup beware: BIG CLAM INSIDE!
Grilled marinated cod fish with soy bean paste $130
Grilled sauteed sliced pork with ginger sauce in hot pot $140
Chopped special sashimi with spring onion on sushi rice $160
Grilled salmon and salmon roe sea urchin with onion on sushi rice $160
the so-called dessert
Conclusion:
This is not entirely what I'd call a cheap place for lunch so I will not visit often. But if there's a special occasion and I want to go somewhere near, quiet for a Japanese Saturday lunch then this might be a good choice.
