We went to Jamie's Italian this evening. It was so bad that I had to write this review for the sake of the restaurant. I hope they will take this feedback and turn some things around. We went to Jamie's Italian this evening. It was so bad that I had to write this review for the sake of the restaurant. I hope they will take this feedback and turn some things around.

Let's start with the good. The service was a good standard, our waiter introduced himself and was informative about the daily specials. No problem there.

The restaurant decor is really great, they got it right there. The ambiance was enjoyable.

Food was served at a good speed. The food was also a reasonable price, although as I was so unimpressed by the food that didn't matter by the time we paid the bill.

I had the pear and rosemary martini which was tasty. The cocktails all seemed to be nice with reasonable pricing.

Now onto the bad. The food. We all got starters. I got the fried mushroom risotto balls. They were really bland and had no flavour. I was really excited to try them too. I think the chefs must have forgotten to season them.

I had heard bad reviews of the food at this restaurant before I went but still wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. I ordered pasta bolognese since it was an easy dish to make and get right. When my pasta arrived I could see the truth in these reviews. The pasta was so overcooked, so clumped together that my fork could actually pick up all the pasta at once. My friend could do the same with her vongole pasta. I cook a lot, especially pasta and know how easy it is make so there's no excuse.. Especially for a celebrity chef's restaurant! The texture made that dish one of the worst I've ever had. On top of that, the meat in the sauce was so dry, it was like cardboard..

I felt sorry for my friends. 2 of them got seafood pastas. The vongole had 4 clams and almost no sauce. My other friend had the spaghetti Nero and for $188 had only 4 Mussels (tiny) , 1 small octopus and squid piece. Another friend got the Osso Bucco, a beef main course for $198 .. The only thing on his plate was the beef (with a big bone).. No side salad, potatoes or vegetables, nothing whatsoever. We had never seen such a thing.

We didn't bother with dessert since that's usually the most technical and difficult course to execute, I no longer trusted they could do a good job.

Honestly, I love Jamie Oliver and respect him a lot. I know he isn't the one cooking and can't oversee all his establishments. However if he wants to prove himself to HK people, he or his team better start paying attention to the quality of their chefs and food.
