It has been a long time since I last visited! Since I visited a similar place nearby recently, I thought it was time for me to make a visit to Sing Heung Yuen. Environment & Hygiene:If you have visited this place before, you would know not to expect anything in these 2 areas. The environment is definitely not comfy, and they put together your food with their barehands. Not a place for everybody.
Service:
Obviously, one cannot expect any service as well. I visited with my aunt and grandma and the staff were very respectful to my grandma, which I appreciated. However, the way the staff communicated with one other was tough to watch, as I felt bad for the staff that were constantly yelled at by the boss lady.
Taste & Value:
What we got:
1. Instant Noodles with Ground Beef and Egg in Tomato BrothThis was what my aunt got, but I tried some. I seriously don't get why people like ordering instant noodles when eating out. It is something so effortless and cheap to make. The broth was not especially rich or tasty, and although the egg was quite good, I still don't understand the charm of instant noodles with canned tomatoes.
2. Instant Noodles with Chicken Wings, a Weiner and Pork Chop in Tomato Broth This was what my granny got. The thing worth mentioning about this was the pork chop. It was surprisingly good, as it was well flavoured. Lemongrass was used I believe? It made me look forward to the Pork Chop Bun, which was on its way. 3. Pork Chop Bun This was good, and such a good deal for $15. It had the same pork chop as in the noodles, only that this was crispy, which made it even more tasty. The bun was their famous toasted bun. Also, there was a slice of tomato in this sandwich, which gave this crispy bun a nice touch of freshness. I recommend this.
4. Crispy Bun with Honey and Lemon For some reason, this took a very long time to come. The honey was good, but the lemon was faint and not too even, as I could barely taste it. It is an interesting combination that I have never tried before. I like that the bun was toasted perfectly. It was in between undertoasted and overtoasted, which allowed it to still be crispy, but not crispy to the point that it scrapes your mouth. It is amazing that they have found that perfect balance. Now I get why people come to eat this bun on purpose although it is another easy to make dish.
5. Cold Milk Tea This was good. It was silky, and I could taste the tea. It was just a little sweet and overloaded with ice.
6. Salty Lemon with Sprite I tried a sip of my aunt's drink, which was a first for me. It was refreshing to drink, and I would describe it as a salted lemonade. 7. Half Coffee/ Half Milk Tea My granny's drink. I didn't try it, but my grandma complained it to be too strong.
Final Verdict:
Once in a while doesn't hurt.
