A little while ago, I went to a place in Wanchai called My Cup of Tea (我杯茶) as they were the winner of the Milk Tea championship a few years ago. But now there is a more recent one! Tea Master (茶王冰室) is located in Mong Kok. They won the Milk Tea Championship in 2016. A bit more recent than the other one. They even have the trophy in the window just to let you know. The place is much like a cha chan teng but a bit more hip in design. Unlike the other place where it's tiny and geared more for take away, this place is a working cha chan teng.
Menu is in Chinese only. There is no English nor is there 10% service charge.
This place had food that included a drink. So, we ordered food so we could just get a drink. I had the hot milk tea. The milk tea here was not as smooth a My Cup of Tea. It was a bit grainy. Not much but it was there. But unlike My Cup of Tea who's tea base was not fragrant at all, this place the tea bags they used was good. A lovely fragrant tea base.
I had the char siu and egg over rice ($58). It was not that good. The char siu was tough. The rice was soggy. Why was it soggy?
Boyfriend had the char and egg over rice with curry ($61). The rice here was also soggy and overcooked. The curry wasn't spicy but it really didn't have much flavor.
The food wasn't good. But the milk tea was pretty good. I guess that's about right as it is only famous for the milk tea. The place is very clean. I was impressed especially when I used their washroom. Spotless! Wow. Service was good, too. But the food doesn't bring me back.
