Normally, cheap sashimi places are viewed somewhat suspiciously because you usually get what you pay for. However, after being pleasantly surprised by Okonomi's takeout sashimi and temaki(hand rolls) from their 2 nearby stores, we decided to give the restaurant a try.The restaurant isn't very large but can seat around 50 without being overly cramped. It's not a high-end Japanese place but definitely not a cha chaan teng either. If you're going with a party of more than 6, you'll definitely want

The restaurant isn't very large but can seat around 50 without being overly cramped. It's not a high-end Japanese place but definitely not a cha chaan teng either. If you're going with a party of more than 6, you'll definitely want to make a reservation. We were one of the first at the restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday, but by 6:45, the restaurant was full.

I feel that the relative value of items on their menu is directly correlated to good execution. The sashimi is excellent, the nigiri pretty good, the temaki rolls about average and the other cooked dishes probably a bit below average (at least from how they looked).

We ordered a variety of nigiri sushi (raw fish on top of rice), which is a real steal at $5-9 per piece (cheaper than CitySuper) and a seafood hot pot. The nigiri was pretty good with generous portions of fish and not too much rice. The presentation on the plate probably could be improved, but we ate it too quickly to really mind. The salmon wasn't too oily. The halibut was excellent and the other white fish (forgot its name) was rich and buttery.

The seafood hot pot was pretty decent, with fresh shrimps, mussels, lot of vegetables and an excellent broth, but not quite the same outstanding value as the nigiri.

We later added a cooked salmon roll, which was ok, but not outstanding, although very cheap at $30. The salmon was a bit oily and the mayonnaise overpowered the salmon taste.

Service is pretty good by Hong Kong standards, with a friendly manager and proactive servers.

Likes: Cheap, generous and tasty sashimi/nigiri. You can get a ridiculous-sized plate of sashimi for $100.
Dislikes: Soy sauce was too salty and overpowered the nigiri tea. Tea is served in paper cups. Some tables are really cold because of the air conditioning.
