As an Italian restaurant, La Taverna stands out not only by its bells-and-whistles but also its exceptional Italian cuisine that satisfies your stomach. The waiters are nice overall as smile does not cost a penny. Then one of them addressed us some signature dishes.

For the side, we ordered Calamari fritti/deep fried calamari with marinara sauce(HKD$128) The squid was covered with crispy golden skin and it had an excellent balance between the crunchy and chewy texture. It tasted even better when dipped into the marinara sauce composed of garlic and tomato.

Jumping to our mains, Tagliolini fatti in casa con ragu divitello e zucchine/Tagliolini with veal ragu and zucchine(HKD$208) The egg pasta was extraordinarily chewy and the ragu is cooked just enough to have a tender texture.

We also recommend Stinco di agnello brasato/Braised lamb shank with spring vegetable and mint sauce(HKD$288) as it is really tender and the fat and lean meat are perfectly portioned. More importantly, the mint sauce was not overtly strong and avoiding the flavour of lamb itself.

Tiramisu/biscuit in espresso coffee with mascarpone cream and chocolate sauce, (HKD$98)looks like a simple dessert dish. However, The coffee flavour is so rich in the cake and the chef is smart to add the mascarpone which makes it exquisitely smooth.

We can surely feel how much effort the restaurant had spent in their food. So far it is one of the Italian restaurant that worth our re-visit in Hong Kong.
