Today, my friend and I went to 鮨千月, a Japanese omakase restaurant next to Victoria Park. As it is on the 26th floor, the view of Causeway Bay is very nice and the restaurant has an open kitchen layout so you can see the chefs prepare the food as you eat. As it was a special occasion, we decided to try the Shinra Omakase ($480) lunch set.The starter was a Japanese salad with agar jelly and a vinegarette dressing. The starter was a Japanese salad with agar jelly and a vinegarette dressing. The dressing was very refreshing and complemented the taste of the salad well without being too overpowering, and there was seaweed and a variety of salad leaves. There was also a Japanese steamed egg with seafood and mushrooms, which was silky and smooth.
There were two types of sashimi - the thin cut sashimi was served with a yuzu dip, and the thick cut was tuna, yellowtail and scallop. The scallop was served with green tea powder, which was an interesting flavour combination and all the sashimi was fresh and of good quality.
The sushi was yellowtail, shrimp, squid and sea urchin. This is one of the best sea urchins I have had in HK, and the shrimp sushi was topped with caviar which was very luxurious. The sashimi don had a very generous portion of sashimi, and was garnished with egg and salmon roe.
The dessert was a pudding with caramel sauce. The pudding was cheese flavoured, and was quite silky and dense. It tasted similar to a cheesecake, so it was very tasty. It was also garnished with gold flakes which was a nice touch.
Overall, this is a good place for an omakase lunch which is not too expensive. Everything is presented beautifully and the food was fresh and very filling. The staff are also very friendly and the view is very good.
