Yuen Long is a good place to live and eat. I used to hang around this area when living in Tuen Mun, before moving into crowded madness in Kowloon. More spacious with shorter residential buildings and beautiful restaurants at their feet on the roadside, such as Education Road (what Kau Yuk Road literally means). Sushi Man is another hidden gem nearby some other quality western restaurants. It was a rainy day and I commuted via East Rail, an easy and clean way to travel to Yuen Long in like 20 min

It was a rainy day and I commuted via East Rail, an easy and clean way to travel to Yuen Long in like 20 minutes for me, but if to walk from the station to the restaurant it takes another 10 minutes along the beautiful river in Yuen Long. It’s so graceful if you walk along it when sun sets among the hued sea of clouds before arriving at Sushi Man.

I tried one of the four chef’s recommendation set called ‘正’. Each piece of sushi, sashimi, starter and dessert are served one by one when you observe the local chef prepare in front of you devotingly with full attention.

The starter was oyster sashimi, baby eel sashimi in dried flowers and wine-pickled tomatoes. All beautiful and unique. The oyster was very salty in when it first reached my tongue, but a few seconds after the amazing flavor and plump texture stood out.

The arkshell, fatty tuna sashimi and sea urchin sushi were the three most impressive and satisfying pieces for me that night. The sea urchin at the sushi are not the same as the sea urchin cup --- it’s very limited in supply at top quality at the famous Tsukiji Market in Tokyo. The Japanese yam was another surprise for its crisp and great seasoning.

Sushi Man has brought a very authentic little Japan into Yuen Long, it’s neat and prudent with wooden décor and ingredients freshly landed in Hong Kong daily. It’s a bit slow when serving but that’s how you are constantly reminded to respect every caterer’s effort to prepare you foods and supply you nutrition as well as energy, something that Hong Kong people are too used to being served so they forget about it.
