We visited this contemporary Vietnamese restaurant on a Saturday evening having booked a few days in advance. There were four of us and we went with the tasting menu. At $428 per person with no drinks, the tasting menu is expensive, but given the quality and quantity of the food, I thought the price was reasonable. The tasting menu had 9 dishes spread over 4 defined courses, and the dishes came in the same order as listed in the tasting menu. The tasting menu had 9 dishes spread over 4 defined courses, and the dishes came in the same order as listed in the tasting menu. I don’t have the sensibilities to fully appreciate the transition from course to course, but clearly some thought had been given to the dining experience. Possibly the fact that I didn’t notice anything was a sign that the courses worked.
Every dish was prepared and presented with expertise and care, each one packed with wonderful flavours. The standout dishes for me were the chargrilled hokkaido scallops - the sweetness of the scallops combined the softness of the garlic butter and kick of the nuoc cham, and the chargrilled boneless chicken - amazingly juicy and tender chicken with the sharp tang of garlic, lemongrass and fish sauce. Portion sizes were generous, and it’s unlikely that you will still be hungry at the end of the meal. I could not fault the quality of the cooking. Likewise, the service at the front of the restaurant was also excellent.
