We had a Sunday night dinner at Bellevue Bar and Grill, high above Nathan Road in Tau Ma Tei - a restaurant that lives up to its name with great views down over Dundas Street and the bottom of Sai Yung Choi Street. The lighting in the restaurant is mostly low and intimate, although the blue lights over the bar did distract a little. There is a varied menu, and while their beef is clearly the house speciality, I was happy to see pasta, fish, and plenty of other meat choices, as well as a
There is a varied menu, and while their beef is clearly the house speciality, I was happy to see pasta, fish, and plenty of other meat choices, as well as a specific vegetarian section - welcome, although unfortunately unusual in Hong Kong. I started with the blacked tuna with Greek salad, which was beautifully presented, with the fish well-seasoned and balanced, and a proper Greek salad of leaves, peppers, olives and feta cheese. For my main, I had penne with wild mushrooms and chili flakes - the pasta was nice and firm while the chili flakes - often a meaningless ingredient - gave it a surprising, but enjoyable heat. My partner had salmon steak for her main, which I tried - it was well-grilled, tender but not too fishy, a good choice.
For dessert, we had mini baked Alaska and crème brûlée with berries, a slightly odd combination, presumably brought together by the use of a blowtorch - both good, with the crème brûlée being crispy on top, smooth underneath, and the baked Alaska sweet and playful with a couple of different ice cream flavours.
The service was discreet and attentive - at one point, I sneezed, and immediately a member of staff put some spare napkins on the table in case I needed them, without saying anything. A good touch...
