Not sure if anyone noticed my avatar picture - sure its the popular Hoegaarden beer! However its actually not any ordinary Hoegaarden, the normal pale white beer is slightly weak, with a herbal, honey sweet like profile, a bit bland especially when served in Draught form. So lately, my craving for the higher end HOEGAARDEN GRAND CRU version became uncontrollable again, as its one of my favourite Belgian beers and scores high marks on many beer reviews. I began frantically looking around for one, but no bars or wine cellars or El Grande group restaurants seem to carry it despite a net search returning 'names and addresses' - all turned out negative. *_*' I didn't think FRITES had it since its slightly Australised but only came here a bit late when someone from another bar pointed me to try here again as he's an ex-worker - so thanks for his assistance!
The Hoegaarden Grand Cru is actually a type of Ale too, but not as dark an ale as the Hoegaarden Forbidden Fruit version. This has a highish Alcoholic content of around 8.7%. This beer is known to be floral in bouquet, slightly honey sweet, bothering on banana like flavour with hints of orange peel citrusy note and herbs. Its the Grown Up version of the normal Hoegaarden - a bit more suitable for males !
If anyone else knows where to find this Grand Cru, the Forbidden Fruit version and also other high end specialty beers - please give me a shout as I have trouble finding any despite what the net search results says!
