Heat, humidity and crowdedness were the three factors that made this specific day a long and tiring one. By evening I was exhausted and worn-out. I had no motivation left to do anything - even eat dinner. But that was just about to change.
When I entered Espuma with my friends, the variety and quality of food that were offered caught me off guard. The myriad of dishes all possessed its own unique flavour. Experiencing diverse tastes stimulated not only my taste-buds, but all my other senses as well.
Below are few of the myriad of foods I tasted whilst there.
Truffle Fries with Cheese
This one came as a surprise. Whilst it looks like any ordinary fries with just cheese on top, there is a beautiful mix to the taste. The crunchiness of the fries together with the thickness of the cheese makes this dish ever more enjoyable to bite and chew. Furthermore, the sauce that comes with it takes away the cheesiness of the fries. When you would expect the fries to be too thick and cheesy, the fresh cold sauce strikes a perfect balance between strong and light tastes.
Espuma Nachos
This dish boasts a variety of flavours. It maintains the traditional tastes and ingredients of genuine Mexican nachos. Tomatoes, melted cheese and guacamole, whilst simple, the mixture and explosion of tastes when eaten will take you by surprise. So when you order one, don’t judge a taco by its look, it may just be able to take you on a food journey straight to Mexico.
Spaghetti con Foie Gras
The spaghetti may be what you call your original Carbonara. It’s thick and creamy taste is the perfect combination you may need for this spaghetti. But once in a while, you’ll need a taste changer. Voilà, here comes the Foie Gras. Whilst the spaghetti itself is undoubtedly delicious, this French delicacy is what really makes this spaghetti a star. This soft meat that melts the moment you bite it takes away that extra thickness of the carbonara. Not only is the Foie Gras itself a surprise, it helps you savour the entire dish without over-creaminess of a typical Carbonara.
Tomato Risotto with Chorizo
This dish is what one can define as “Italy meets Spain.” The tomato risotto has the fresh Mediterranean flavours with the chewy and tasty chorizo on it. It is a great combination to experience and a fantastic way to savour and enjoy the traditional meals of southern Europe.
Smoky Grilled Angus Rib
This dish was the scene-stealer of the day. It was one of the juiciest and tastiest steak I have ever eaten. It does not come in a normal plate but inside a box full with herbs and spices. The box helps embed the aroma of the herbs into the beef, giving it a more natural and fresh texture. The softness of the meat together with the nicely cooked vegetables allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
The Devil Eats Oreo Brown
This is the mixture of all your sweetest desires. From waffles to brownies, you will indulge yourself in the chocolate paradise this dish offers you. You may think the excess of chocolate may make the dessert too sweet or thick, but the ice-cream and the cream actually cancels out the thick taste with some cold fresh ones. It’s really a great mixture of thick sweetness to cold freshness. Make sure you make enough space for dessert!
Chocolate Nutella Macchiato
A great way to sweeten up a coffee. To drink this, you need to stir the drink so that the Nutella that has sunk to the bottom gets dissolved and blends with the coffee. Once mixed, the macchiato becomes a great mixture of sweet and bitter. There is no better way to enjoy coffee than having a sweet dip of Nutella inside it.
Overall, the dining experience at Espuma was one of the greatest I have had. Not only did I try great food, I really felt that I was going on a taste journey to the Mediterranean. It was really a re-energizer for me after a long and tiring day. The blend of taste, atmosphere and variety is really what allowed me to enjoy the food and the time I spent with my friends. I mean, what other way to brighten up a day other than great Spanish food?
