My friend keeps recommending this place that the price is more reasonable (i.e. Cheaper) than 盛八, and the beef has about the same quality (as good as) as 盛八. However, after I tried, my bf and I are both not think so. We are still the fans of 盛八. We booked the table at 730 on one Friday night on Jan 2008. We booked the table at 730 on one Friday night on Jan 2008. When we got there, there is another couple in front of us. I beg they are the regular customer, so the waitress knew them. The waitress just server them, and make us wait for so long that to take us to the table. No other waiter will come and help. Either waiter or waitress just passed by and no one asked about why we stood there.
As we are only two people, we have shared a table with another couple, which is ok for me. They have a small separator in between us and other couple, which is nice. However, no one serve us. The waitress was busy taking order for the couple next to us, but won’t even give us tea until we asked for.
We ordered the aji sashimi (around $120 per fish), and sth cheese (like yogurt kind and dip with the crackers provided) as appetizers. The aji is fresh, but the bone can not be deep fried (normally the restaurant will do it if ppl order aji). So, we missed a dish for our alcohol. The cheese was nice too, but I was expected the cheese should be in cube size. The flavor is very light that don’t think I am eating cheese at all. Just different expectation.
For drink, we have ordered the Korean sake (Jinro), which is $90 per bottle. Very expensive. In Jusco, it’s only sold $19 per bottle. I understand that restaurant must sell more expensive that to cover their expense. But, shouldn’t be that expensive. I have been ordered the same drink in other Korean restaurant b4; it’s only $50 (the most). So, my bf and I only drink one bottle as we think it’s really not worth. Other alcohol is very expensive too, like a small bottle of Asahi cost almost $50, while盛八cost only $38 for one draft. Other Japanese Sake was cost at least $200 per bottle (150ml).
For entr嶪, we order the beef & seafood combination (the same combo as the previous food reviewer). Ours was not as good as his. First, the seafood is still frozen. The shrimp was so ‘hard’and still can see the ice was cover its. So, we have to wait till the end to eat it. The shrimp is big, but still can’t taste the frozen smell. For other seafood, scallop was ok, but not fresh. The squid has cut too thin, and no taste at all. The salmon fish belly is above average. I can tell they have put some salt on it. For the beef, the short ribs had a bit beef flavor. The rest didn’t have any beef taste at all, but still tighten. The beef tongue had many pieces that can fill up my stomach.
End up, we have to look around for waitress to get the bill. In 10 minutes, no waitress will walk around to see if we need anything. I don’t think I will go again.
