Food is pretty good and creative, interesting combination. We ordered hake fillet with artichoke puree and red wine jus. Artichoke and red wine? But it turns out to be pretty good! The pork chop is very juicy and tender too, done just right.
Now the flip side is really the incredibly poor service. Thumbs down to the whole team on that day.
The guy who took our order, when I said to him I'd like to order hake fillet. He literally asked "You want this?" Afterwards, he did not repeat orders and he did not collect the menu. The menu is a big carte occupying half of the table and he just left them there. He walked away, entered our orders into the computer, came back with the utensils. We thought he would pick up the menu on the table this time. But no. It is as if it is invisible to him.
After 10 minutes, we asked the second guy who happened to walk by to please collect the menu and fetch us more bread. He did not say anything, simply picked up the menu and walked away curtly. He did come back with the bread though which is I guess the only credit we can give him that he did not forget as is very often the case in HK restaurants. He literally threw the butter plate at the table, turned his face away and walked away rudely.
Then food came, which is good like what I said above. But the guy who brought the plates, has one plate in one hand and he basically just stood there and looked at us without saying anything. He waited until we cleared the bread plates on the table for him to put down both plates. If he asked, we would gladly have helped, but he didn't. He just stared at us and waited, which makes us feel like we were the one serving.
Alright, after we are done, the guy came and collect the plate, just one though, which is mine. We have forks and knives arranged (nicely) on our plates, clear indication that we are done and we licked the plates clean literally (told you the food is good!) He collected mine and then walked away. Never came back for the plate of my friend. Amazing!
So you see, it is really a bit of a mixed feeling. Food is good but then service is really sub-par, given this is a restaurant in Pacific Place. We walked out feeling full and satisfied in the stomach but unhappy! The restaurant manager should really take heed of this and make sure they train the staff to just average, okay? Just average would be good enough and all we ask for, compared to the rock bottom level of service we received that day. It would make the whole experience a much more enjoyable one!
Overall - I give it a "Poor" rating purely because of the bad service and rude attitude of the servers. I want this to be noticed and I want it to improve. If the service is improved to an average level, and not make us walk out feeling "indignant", I would swing to the other end of the spectrum and give it a "Smile" without hesitation.
