I got to know the brand Greyhound a few years ago, I first bought a pair of leather boots from their shop (and they are still good today ). A year ago or so the Greyhound Café in IFC, Central caught my eye, well, I didn’t quite made it to the restaurant itself but I ended up having some twenty dishes of its takeaway at office during OT how about that!
Restaurants with brands historically didn’t quite work and a few of them ended up quite badly… restaurants with some fancy dress and bad food? Not the best idea I would say. The Greyhound Café did not fall into the same trap - it worked.
lThis new shop located at the festival walk opened in late Dec 2012. The new shop’s décor is very modern. Part of the restaurant is out of the physical shop and you can get million feets of headroom. Paintings and the furniture are very nice; I was told that parts of them were decorated by a team of designers of Greyhound. When I say true fusion, not only did different cuisines (i.e. Thai and Italian) blend - but also did the interior design of the restaurant. The folding gate and the floor tiles were nice touches to the hip atmosphere.
For appetizers, we had Fried Chicken Wings, which was one of the recommended dishes of food critic “阿蘇” and it was said to be one of the must-try of Greyhound Café. Good flavour there and very crispy. The Salmon Carpaccio in Spicy Hot Sauce was also one of their signature dishes. Although some might not like the piece of raw garlic placed on top of the salmon, in my opinion, that is the essence of the dish, similar to one of the all-time Thai dishes – raw shrimp. With some spicy Thai sauce replacing the original Thai chili, that’s very fusion-ish.
If the excitement from the Wings and the Salmon is little bit too much for you, the Pomelo Salad might just be the right dish. The pomelo was fresh unlike pomelo salad served elsewhere, it was served with roasted coconut bits and crispy fish – very crunchy.
I also had the chance to have some new dishes of Greyhound, their new Waterfall Grilled Lamb is specifically created for the opening of the new Greyhound café in Beijing. I am not a big fan of lamb, but the lamb skewers were grilled very well, with the spring onions and lime juice, the lamb is absolutely not gamey, I’m sure this will impress many! The Aromatic Shrimp was firm and tender, a taste of freshness there* , dipping it with aioli sauce was great. The creaminess of the mayo with garlic blends with the big piece of shrimp, and the chili gave it just a little bit of spice to bring out the taste.
I always have difficulties in deciding between burgers and Panini. For beef sandwiches, Greyhound offers Buffalo Burger and Roast Beef Panini. Both of them were strong candidates. The black bun of the burger looked very strange to me, and it is made from bread with squid ink! The big piece of Buffalo Cheese inside the burger was a little bit heavy for me , because I have finished most of the fat chips next to it, very very well done the crispy chips. The panini was a lighter choice, matching the roast beef with grilled vegetables and pesto sauce makes it simply the best choice for healthy diners - Panini wins
For carbs, we started with Spaghetti with Thai Anchovy. It was somewhat Mediterranean, the anchovies tasted quite strong and were a bit salty, which makes it a good ingredient to pair with the spaghetti. Minced Chicken with Sweet Basil and Hot Chilies with Rice and Noodle with Thai Duck Stew were not bad at all, the clear broth came with the rice dish was fine.
Another dish that surprised me a bit was the Fusilli Phad Thai, it looked a bit weird at first at it does not look any phad thai I’ve ever had, but I’m afraid this is one of the best dishes I had tonight. The fusilli was cooked nicely and it matches with the chili powder, beansprouts and dried shrimps quite well.
For desserts, Fresh Coconut Crepe Cake is definitely for the coconut lovers, layering the coconut after coconut in every single bite. If you like Nutella, this is the right dessert for you - Banana and Nutella Cheese Cake, creamy and banana-ish, simply great. Sticky Rice with Mango is the sort of fusion-ish verison of the traditional black glutinous rice w/ mango, mango was fresh and sweet. Fresh Made Apple Crumble was covered with crunchy crumble topping, brilliant, but I thought it could be a lil bit more sweeter, sweet-lover me
Beverages of Greyhound weren’t like any other ordinary drinks, the well known Iced Lemon Tea came with lemon tea ice cubes which won’t dilute the lemon tea, it has a strong taste of lime as well The Butterfly Pea and Stevia Tea is also one of the must-try here, the tea was blue and was said to be used as dyes in the past, I don’t care whether it’ll make my stomach blue, but it definitely made me feel like drinking Alice’s tea in her wonderland!
This place is not revolutionary, nor did it surprise me with a big wow, but it shows that Hong Kong is certainly lacking fine fusion food at an affordable price. From the design of the restaurant interior to the lemon tea ice cubes, I enjoyed it all. Thank you Gaia for inviting me to this enjoyable meal.
(Minced Chicken with Sweet Basil and Hot Chilies)$108 其貌不揚,跟茶記嘅碟頭飯無乜兩樣,因為佢就喺晌曼谷街頭巷尾常見嘅街坊美食,一客飯配個清湯,好多人就咁又一餐架喇!
Minced Chicken with Sweet Basil and Hot Chilies

I was really chuffed to be invited to try the exclusive new dishes at Kowloon Tong's new Greyhound Thanks to the Marketing group. I have been to Greyhound before twice which were paid visits just to try their famous Lemon Tea and desserts.
On this visit I got to try their new dishes which is also offered in their Beijing Branch of Greyhound.
This restaurant is located on the second floor next to Pizza Express. This branch features a convertible private room when required especially when they have celebrities.
Sirlion of lamb served on skewers with Thai north eastern style spices with chopped shallots, spring onion, dry chilies and lime juice. This was my favourite because their sauce was really similar to the sauce at chili club for the thinly sliced grilled beef filet. Surprising the lamb and the sauce were a great match and lamb meat has never been so appetizing and moreish. I will definately order this on my next visit which means I have to come back to this branch as they only serve it here. They also offer this at their Beijing branch because the people up North like lamb. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Buffalo Burger:
Burger with minced beef, fresh buffalo mozzarella, tomato and sweet basil. When it came, I was already delighted because the burger bun was no ordinary bun but a black one. Initially I thought it was charcoal but it turned out to be squid ink which was even better because not many places have squid ink buns.
The burger patty was good because it was lean minced beef and it also had my favourite buffalo mozzarella cheese. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ NEW: Roast Beef Panini:
With grilled vegetables and spicy pesto. On the photo you can see there was so much pesto infused with other herbs and spices. The beef and aubergines had a nice charred taste. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Fusilli Phad Thai:
Italian short and chewy pasta stir-fried in Phad Thai sauce, topped with fresh beansprouts, crushed peanuts, dried shrimps and chili powder. It was a nice change from Cambodian noodles with fusilli which was nice and colourful too. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Noodle with Thai Duck Stew
Rice noodle in tender duck stew soup. Flavoured with chili sauce and fish sauce. The sauces came in a separate dish which was good and these are the best rice noodles I have had because they are thinner than the usual Cambodian noodles. However the noodles get soft quickly so eat it as soon as you can. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Minced Chicken with Sweet Basil and Hot Chilies
Usually this dish is minced beef, but here they offer chicken which tastes even better because chicken is tender and leaner than pork. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Spaghetti with Thai Anchovy
This item is another must order item because the taste is very strong, from salty anchovies to strong basil leaves. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
