I'd like to say I'm a healthy foodie, and this restaurant definitely fills my needs.

#1: The sandwiches are actually good for once.
Often times I'd go to a sandwich restaurant and the sandwich would be terrible: soggy bread caused by too much sauce, lack of character of the actual bread, etc. The sandwiches that they serve here are toasted well, and the contents tasted good.

#2: The menu selection is fun.
As a foodie, I always want to try new takes on certain foods. So when I saw that they have sandwiches such as the Kentucky San and the Ngau Lam 'Wich, my foodie self was delighted. And they're not one of those self-indulgent fusion creations either. They actually seemed to take the time and test their ideas to make sure they're sandwiches that people will like. 
#3: The menu is simple.
I don't wanna choose among 300 options of slight variations of the same food. Give me a few options and let me decide from there.

If you're the kind of person who likes fun and decent sandwiches, I reckon you should give this place a shot. It definitely won't disappoint.

主場之利,Bread & Beast呈獻,別樹一格,友人指由三文治的命名就顯出其玩味。Ha-ha Piss Off,感覺幾大口氣,應是來頭不小,對此有點期望。以為人熟悉的青島啤入饌,製作蝦天婦羅,並配以薑鹽點綴的啤酒同食。蝦天婦羅炸至金黃,帶微脆,用的為瀨尿蝦,怪不得是Piss off了。這為是晚唯一的海鮮三文治,受人歡迎,亦成為票選的第二名。只是Tasting Portion的啤酒以Shot份量供應,所之用心製作的薑鹽邊來得過鹹,可惜了。

This place is certainly for #sandwichporn 👻 Almost all the guests were foreigners. I ordered the Kentucky San $78 (Krispy fried chicken x curry kewpie mayo x nori x shredded white cabbage x pickled ginger). It wasn't oily yet full. Surprisingly Bread & beasts offered #FreeCoffeeMonday so I got free iced mocha, it was intense and I liked it!Overall, it was a bit pricy but I think it is a desire place for hunting sandwiches and drinks! I'll be here again!!

環境ok,附近都幾靜,幾休閒. Ngau Nam Wish 唔錯, 塊牛坑腩好鬆軟,蘿蔔好冧,感覺似清湯腩,而個汁都收得幾好濃.唔鐘意食肉嘅可以試下,ur veggie welcome 茄子係薄左小小,但係燒得幾香.配埋牛油果同墨西哥辣乳酪醬,幾開胃. 但係可能因為地區問題,價錢貴左啲.

We were there on a Saturday. There were four regular sandwiches on the menu, but they were also serving their breakfast sandwiches all day, and one of my friends got one of those.

I got the Kentucky San, "krispy fried chicken, currie kewpie mayo, white cabbage, pickled ginger" - $68. I thought the fried chicken was great-- nice and tender, crispy and hot, pretty big, very juicy. The cabbage as well was a good choice.

But I was not a fan of the pickled ginger. It was too ginger-y and I wound up taking it off. I additionally thought there was altogether too much sauce. It was dripping everywhere out the sides of the sandwich. I tried to wipe as much sauce off the bread as I could. Finally, I'd ideally like more vegetables on my sandwich, tomatoes I think would be a good choice.

On the whole I didn't really like it. Fundamentally, it was good, in that the star of the show (the chicken) was good and the bread was also fabulous. But I didn't really enjoy taking bites of it, so there you go.

My wife got the ngau lam wich, "12hr slow-cooked beef brisket, chu hao mayo, spring onion, pickled daikon" - $88. She thought it was pretty good-- perhaps the meat was a little fattier than she would have liked-- but hey, it's brisket.

Finally we got the lotus chips, "fu yue mayo, spring onions" - $30.  I thought they were OK. I have my issues with condiments and I wish they put the mayo on the side.

At the end of the day, I think this place is OK. They have good quality stuff, and it's at very reasonable prices. But the menu is extremely short (4 sandwiches), and something about pretty much all of the options turned me off.

If you're not very picky, I'd recommend it, but I'm extremely picky especially concerning things like sandwiches where small decisions concerning ingredients greatly affect how much I enjoy them. I've never really understood sandwich or burger places where the chef has a few hyper-specific concoctions and doesn't allow the customers any choice, but whatevs.

I love this place, a gourmet sandwich place with a semi-al fresco setting, relaxing area and breezy vibes. Bread & Beast is set at the east side of Swatow Street, where serves some lunchtime staple that are far more than just decent sandwiches.Their artisanal loaves are filled with all delicious meats such as their debut, Unporchettable, a pork roll, Yu Banh Mi, a battered fish, and Kentucky-san, also a batter-fried chicken with pickled ginger.My favourite is surely the Ngau Lam sandwich packed

My favourite is surely the Ngau Lam sandwich packed with chu hou mayonnaise and crisp daikon, borrowing the flavor and tenderness of braised beef brisket that is commonly found at Hong Kong local noodle shops.

A combo set also comes with your choice of sides, either salad, fries or chip.
The lotus root chips is an intriguing one that has been drizzled with fermented beancurd mayonnaise, whereas the lennon fries is so inventively made to resemble the excellent flavor of okonomiyaki, completed with an intriguing onsen egg.

The restaurant is open and has only a long table with some bar chairs to sit. Nice design, but not a place to stay for longer.

The menu is quite short: 4 sandwiches plus a few side orders. I went for combo of a “kentucky san” with a side order of lotus root chips for HKD 100. Sandwiches are made to order and mine came within not much more than 5 minutes.

The kentucky san is basically a chicken katsu curry on a bun. A large, thick, hot and very juicy Japanese style breaded chicken filet, curry mayonnaise and some finely shredded cabbage on a ciabatta-style bread. Nicely served on a wood-board (as hip burger places do it these days). The chicken was delicious, tender and juicy and worked very well with the mayo, the cabbage added a bit of texture, but not much taste. Overall a very satisfying sandwich experience.

The word chips is a bit confusing as it means differing things in American and British English, the lotus root chips are “American chips”– thin and cold (i.e. crisps in British English). They look nicer than regular potato chips, but taste basically the same. They are covered with a bit of “fu yue mayo”, no idea what that is, but it didn't add much flavor. Would probably try a different side dish next time.

Overall a good option for a quick lunch in wan chai, but a pit pricey for a sandwich.

在兩片烤過的薄身多士裡頭,找到了炒蛋、車打芝士、甜辣椒醬、菜葉以及蕃茄,整個組合給人一個頗調和的感覺....

蛋是夠滑溜的;菜是翠綠爽鮮的;蕃茄是多汁色澤紅潤的;芝士不是死實實的達半溶的狀態。所有東西配合混和那味甜甜辣辣的醬汁,味道果是不俗的....

但對於小弟來講,材料質素再好,但若麵包不濟的話,這份三文治還只是一件普通貨色而已....

很遺憾地,這裡的多士是太硬了,而且最重要是它焦了,入口有一大咲的苦味,有點兒蓋過了配料的味道....

很可惜,單單就因為這個,便令所有形勢逆轉了....

Ngau Nam Wich (HK$88) - I was skeptical at first but this fusion of Chinese beef brisket into a sandwich actually worked! The 12 hour slow-cooked beef brisket was soft and quite flavorful with chu hao mayo and pickled daikon while the exterior of the beef seemed to have been seared as well as there was a bit of crisp and caramelization going on there. Can't wait to try more!

看過報紙的食評,欲試牛腩三文治,大概食評家的文字功力太好,形容得太吸引,到食的時候就有了個差距,不是不好食,只是覺得不值$88,而且不包飲品或sides,加咖啡要多加$2x。另叫一個蓮藕片,男友說炸得太乾,我覺得像薯片,醬汁大概加了腐乳,味道不錯,創意加分,但不會有下次,除非$88是包飲品吧。至於special menu是tempura fish 三文治,不知是否炸的時間過長,顏色較深,魚是滑的但份量少,配菜是越/泰式沙律中蘿蔔絲,創意是有,但$98又不包飲品或sides,在灣仔還有許多選擇。店鋪不大,靠牆的枱偏少,特色是有,但實用性不高。櫈是夠的,但根本坐不下那麼多人,所以就算有吉位也無法坐下,職員感覺友善但不會協助安排位置

Went to the Tong Chong Street market and tried the Philly cheese tongue which is an exclusive bun served by Bread & Beast at the market.Samples of the food at the stall.The Philly cheese tongue is sandwiched with ox tongue, caramelized onions, American cheese, mustard and sauerkraut.It was really good because the sauerkraut made it really appetizing and the beef tongue was thinly sliced.I also tried the lotus root chips which were smothered in sauce.

Bread & Beast is located in Wanchai, down Swatow Street. A street that is now filled with a lot of hipster coffee shops. So, it is only fitting to have a hipster sandwich shop. It's hip. Just look at the  front of the shop! Classy dark gray walls. Bright yellow stool chairs. Hip music blasting out. Yup ... it's cool. It's hip.

Like all hipster establishments, it's not cheap. You're talking $68 - 98 a sandwich. You can combo it with fries, salad or soup for an addtional $22 - 32. Menu is simple and in English only though the staff do speak both English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge.

But is it good? It sure looked good. All sandwiches are made to order so it takes a while. You pay and they ask what your name is. When your order is done, they call out your name. Oh how very Starbucks! Or at least in North America Starbucks anyways because Starbucks doesn't do that here.

I ordred a sandwich and soup combo. Total $130. See what I mean about pricey? For this price, I could have an actual sit down lunch at a nice place in Central.

Gazpacho ($32). Originally $40 but if you do the combo, it's $32. This was very fresh tasting but a bit more tart than most gazpachos I've ever had. But still very good and absolutely refreshing on a hot day.

Yu Banh Mi ($98). I was thinking of the regular banh mi but I was sold on what they call the Beast special. This is whatever they put forth as a rotating special sandwich. This is a crispy fish fillet with crispy vegetables, coriandor and pickled shallots. It was served with a slightly spicy, slightly tart scallion dipping sauce and a roasted lime. This was excellent. The bread was toasted and warm. Actually, the bread was excellent. It was buttery and fragrant. The fish was moist and crispy though I think could have been a bit more crispier. The mix of fresh vegetables and pickled shallots was wonderul. This was a pretty good sandwich.

Great sandwich. Great, friendly service. Though prices were a bit more expensive than what I'm used to for sandwiches but then ... this is Hong Kong and not Canada and it seems everything that isn't local is expensive. I liked it a lot. Best sandwich in Hong Kong? Probably not. But a pretty good contender for one of the best. I'll be back to try them all!

 新開嘅三文治店,開放式店面,舖頭出面仲放咗兩張枱櫈,店入面嘅擺設同傢俬都行型嘅路線,成個環境好relax! UN'PORCHETT'ABLE 其實係豬肉三文治,豬肉有幾片,有啲白煮feel, 配上香草醬,同酸咪咪嘅青蘋果,感覺好開胃!最好食嘅,其實係個包,個包有啲似法包,不過佢外脆內軟,而且熱辣辣,好好食。係用餐嘅時候,仲有隻蝴蝶飛咗入嚟,relax到以為今日放梗假!好多人讚嘅牛腩三文治,等Ss都會一會佢先!個包同豬肉三文治一樣咁好食,水準穩定。一食落去,葱嘅香味就湧出嚟,好特別但係好味嘅。牛腩聲稱用咗十二個鐘嚟慢煮,食落真係軟熟同多汁!配用嘅醬汁又微甜同微酸,好夾,一面食一面係個包嘅尾部滴汁><西式三文治crossover葱同牛腩,有新意又好食。雖然$88真係唔算平,但真係值得一食!今次仲飲左杯LEMONADE, 但都幾酸下,可以消滯!而杯 AMERICANO就普通,不過不失啦~~

灣仔的汕頭、廈門街這兩年,開了很多小小的食店,中西美食,各種各樣都有,賣的多都是熱誠,創業者的熱誠,這小店如是。入到店內,光顧的多是年青人,一個三文治加一個side dish已經要百多元,不是一個普通的午餐。不過,侍應的熱情立即加分,青春、滿滿的真誠笑容,整個團隊有一種融合了的感覺,很一致的熱情。從侍應的話,叫了今日推介魚柳三文治及一個炸蓮藕片,三文治有越式感覺,滿滿的甘筍、生菜、青瓜、沙葛等,全部放得整整齊齊,没有一路吃一路跑出來的狠狽相。炸魚多汁的,包內沒有放多餘的醬料,非常平衡、清新。炸蓮藕片淋上微微酸的沙律醬,都是非常平衡、清新,且會上癮的。最可惜是個麵包,拿回公司開餐不過5 分鐘,怎麼是乾癟的,没有菜單上相片中好吃。要再回來,要試試那個人人叫好的牛腩包,希望到時麵包會有所改善。
