I dine out almost every single meal but I have never written reviews on a single restaurant since I never felt so strongly about a place.
But I felt this is my duty to write a review to provide strong warning to fellow diners of the horrible GM of Al Molo and the service they provided which ruined my sunday afternoon.
I STRONGLY ADVISE ANY DINERS TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT UNLESS YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT RECEIVING PROPER SERVICES WHEN YOU PAY HKD400/PP.
I have lived in HK for more than 10 yrs and I really don't have any unrealistic high expectations from HK restaurants, and I definitely do not expect Japanese or Ritz Carlton caliber services for a HKD400 (US$50/ppl meal). However, this was the ultimate rude experience that you can have in HK.
First, the total service level of the staff was dismal. I believe I don't need to repeat them since a lot of reviewers complained the same thing. Personally, I felt that the staff were utterly ill trained.
Anyways, I was so fed up with the service, I went to the manager. However, the moment I began speaking to general manager, I realized why this establishment is getting smashed on their services. He was the most immature and unprofessional manager I have ever come across.
He told me that this is a democracy and I am entitled to my own opinion. I was actually shocked at his response to a complaining customer and at that point, I realized speaking to that guy is useless. Due to my frustration, I said "you gotta fri**ing train your staff" and he started picking on me on the fact that I used that word. He must have thought he now had an upper hand on the customer because I was losing cool and used the "fri**ing" word.
I then decided I do not need to waste my time talking to anyone in this restaurant and and started going back to my table. When I did that, he started following me and I turned around to say don't follow me. And his response was "This is my place and I can go wherever I want." I have not heard of this type of teasing tone since elementary school and I was really blown away.
I then stepped one step closer to him, and he threatened me to keep my distance, drawing a line in front of him or he would need to "do something about it". I was not charging into him and he was the one who was following me. But he was making a clear threat to me. Anyways, I decided I would end this nonsense so our interactions stopped there.
From the above interactions with the GM, it is pretty self apparent why staff at this place gets complaints on multiple reviews. The GM is more inclined to threaten and tease an extremely frustrated customer than reflect on the service his staff was providing.
I won't comment on food quality since that is subjective, but I would say it is an average standard for HK Italian food. However, there are a lot of other establishments that treat you like a human being and value your patronage than this place.
I really regret not heeding all the comments on rude services.
HK has a lot of great Italian restaurants so I strongly advise you to avoid this establishment. Not worth taking your chance on ruining your entire day on bad services in exchange for an average Italian food.
