We have a penchant for dim sum and chose this modern shop which solely served dim sum for dinner. The place was pretty quiet as we started eating at 6pm, and the service was a bit wanting as waitresses were not attentive to the hot water refills for tea. The food arrived in quick succession. The bird's nest egg tart was fair, though the crust was a trifle too sweet. The abalone tart was quite good; as it was kept warm and its characteristic rich flavour was brought out naturally. Despite the aesthetically pleasing appearance, the mushroom-lookalike vegetable dumpling buns were somewhat dry and the taste was so-so only. The shrimp dumplings were fresh. The Siu lung bao (soup dumplings) were sloppy; the dumpling skin was too thick and too baggy, unable to achieve the best ratio of soup and dumpling which was the essence of Siu lung baos. The baked barbecue pork buns were warm but not crunchy enough, also they were a bit too sweet. The Siu Mai dumplings were very good and succulent. The fried egg with glutinous rice was rich with a tinge of yolk. The sponge cake (ma-lai cake) was too coarse and hard to palate. The yolk and milk custard buns were flowing with yolk - guess they overdid the fluidity.
To conclude, we were not too impressed with the food or the service, with discounts from credit cards this amounted to $201 per head - which was fair at best.
