Quite a few gourmets from Openrice.com had unhappy feedback on Ar Chong, particularly its poor service. I had visited it twice. Lucky enough, I didn't encounter any rude attendants as described. They can only be described as inattentive. (As they didn't give us water after we took our seats) I can't describe its service "poor". In terms of food, it's not bad though. K had the same conclusion. Tonight, we ordered the following dishes:Ga Xe Phai (cabbage chicken salad)Banh Mi Saigon (Saigon baguet
Ga Xe Phai (cabbage chicken salad)
Banh Mi Saigon (Saigon baguette sandwiches)
Bun Thit Nuong (cold vermicelli with grilled pork)
Sweet and sour sauce determines the quality of Vietnamese food. It is commonly found in ordinary Vietnamese restaurants in Hong Kong that the sauce is too thin and unable to bring up your appetite. It will be awful to have Vietnamese vermicelli if the sauce is too thin. Ar Chong is able to produce sweet and sour sauce with appropriate concentration. The food was served within reasonable time. Chicken salad was our first dish. Ironically, I (being a carnival) would prefer a smaller chicken portion in this salad. I think veggies in sweet and sour sauce is the best appetizer. We then had vermicelli. The grilled pork was excellent albeit not juicy enough. (perhaps it's ridiculous to ask for juicy grilled pork bearing in mind that the pork was cut into thin slices.) It not only retained the taste of pork, its taste was brought up to a higher level by grilling. The grilled pork was also found in the sandwiches. Nevertheless, the bread was not my cup of tea. It's a bit too hard and some more effort was needed to chew the bread. The total cost was only $150. Very reasonable. The decor could also give me a clean impression.
