Dining at Chuen Kee was definitely one of my best dining experiences in HK. Coming from Central, we took the MTR to Choi Hung and then a mini bus into Sai Kung. When I got off the bus, the only place I saw was Chuen Kee and it looked legit with their line and big tanks of seafood. Being the tourist that I am, I ordered everything I saw and that still wasn't enough. I ordered 4 Big Ass Shrimps (fried), 4 Big Ass Mantis Shrimps (fried), 2 Big Ass Softshell Mantis Shrimps (fried) that had to be contained in a water bottle so they don't fight each other, 2 Abalone (KFC Style), 2 Scallops (w/ noodles), 1 whole Squid (fried, again) and a Lobster (Sashimi Style). The answer is yes, if you were wondering if we finished all the food. Everything came out amazing, I have no complaints. The only thing I would have done without is the squid because it doesn't beat the fried calamari from Italian restaurants in NYC.We got a lot of attention from the people around, since they probably thought we wouldn't be able to finish the incredible amount of food we ordered.My only complaint about the restaurant or Hong Kong rather, is that they don't give you tissues. We had to clean our hands with the cup of tea they gave us.Our bill came out to 3980HKD. Quite pricey, but worth the experience. I later went to visit Lei Yue Muen, Lamma Island and Cheung Chau. The prices were definitely more affordable there, but the food did not taste as good.…查看更多

This place screams cha chan tang. Their customer base are mostly white collar workers. Coming from the NYC, I thought this place served as a very memorable experience to see how the breakfast scene is in HK. Bagel vs. Luncheon Meat w/ Eggs on a sandwich. Sun Heung Yuen had tables inside and outside of the store. The smokers sat outside and the non-smokers sat inside. It doesn't make much of a difference to me, but it's very considerate for them to do that. The lady boss of the place is very nice and recognized me as a regular after visiting 3-5 times. That's difficult to find in HK. One of my favorite spots to eat beef stew w/noodles (Kau Kee) still does not recognize me as a regular after going there for half a year. I would really recommend this place as the prices are fair and the service is superior. The food is made immediately (except for the instant noodles), therefore fresh. This is probably the most known restaurant in HK for Roasted Goose. It is a high end Guangdong style restaurant that’s most known for their Roasted Goose.  For it's class, I think the decor could definitely be better.  However, with their fame, they don't have to do much to keep it. Is it the best Roasted Goose I’ve had in HK? I’m afraid not…  How was their famous Goose? So-so… Yung Kee’s Roasted Goose was the first I’ve had in HK and after much researching; I’ve found a few others that I would say blows it off the shores in terms of taste… Yat Lok which is a block up from Yung Kee is a much better choice if you are in Central, but it will not have the same décor as it is a smaller restaurant that serves the office crowd during. My favorite for Roasted Goose has to be Kam’s Kitchen in Tin Hau. You can also try the Roasted Goose at Sham Tseng, but it’s a little too oily there in my opinion.  Coming from a country that does not serve Goose, any Goose is good.  But to get good goose at Yung Kee, you'd have to know a guy to hook you up.  At least that's the word around town.…查看更多

The wait sucks. Not worth it.

Greyhound is in one of the most touristy malls in HK, so you can guess how packed it could be. I went around noon and it was packed to the brim. It was worth it for me, but not for my colleagues. As we are all from the states, we were not use to waiting over 30 minutes for lunch. I'm sure with HK's fast pace environment; the locals are not use to it either.The service was nothing to praise about, you sit, you order, you eat you pay and then you leave... The waiters/waitresses will not go out of their way to ask you how your day is going or give you any recommendations.  What's memorable was the softshell crab with ink spaghetti for me. It had the right amount of flavor so that it wasn't too flavorful or bland. I also had satay skewers, which were just normal skewers to me.What's memorable is the atmosphere. In the financial hub of HK, I'd expect a bunch of white collar workers, but that was not the case at Greyhound.  It was filled with tourists.…查看更多

Urban was one of the first places I’ve gotten breakfast from when I first moved to Central, HK. It’s a great place to be for breakfast, as the lines are not very long and the food is average. I really like the way they make their eggs here. It is more watery when compared to the way they make it in the states. I believe it's because they add milk to it. During lunch they serve a great Duck Confit sandwich, which is supposedly their signature dish. I've had it and I must say it's got the flavors aligned, but could use a bit less salt. After going to Spring Deer, American Restaurant, Yung Kee, Empire City Roasted Duck and Lei Garden for Peking Duck, I believe Peking Garden is the best in the business. The duck is skinned in front of you and served right away to guarantee freshness.  Not to mention it comes with a great show.  What I would add is maybe more side dishes to serve with the bun. That's something Spring Deer did right, but ever since Spring Deer geared towards their tourist customers more, their quality has gone down. Asides from that, Peking Garden is my go-to spot for Peking Duck. Their Chrysanthemum tea w/ honey is also a nice touch. I must also say that their atmosphere is a lot better.  It's very spacious, so I felt very comfortable while I was eating.  That's hard to find in a place like HK.  I guess you get what you pay for.…查看更多

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It is a very VIP place. I had a friend of mine who is a Ning Po member and a regular bring me. I must say that it was the greatest Shanghainese food I’ve had. Keep in mind, I have not been in Shanghai (I’m sure it’s even better there). The drunken chicken was probably the best I’ve had because it was so smooth and tasty with a hint of Chinese wine. I also had the first Stinky Tofu here and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I also had the River Shrimp here, which I didn’t think much of because of the way it looked, but it was very sweet and tasty. Best when eaten with rice and the vinegar they provide you. What a disappointment...
The Flying Pan

I went to The Flying Pan for lunch because my colleague from NY kept praising it and said that I must try it if I am around, so I did.  Boy, was it a dissapointment...  I had an omelette that was bland and sloppy.  The meats were not cut up properly as there were chunks of it half sliced.  I think it could be the worst omelette I've ever had.  Apparently, this place is great during a night out.  Now I understand why.I also expected the place to be cleaner for it's location, but my table was sticky from the previous customers since they did not do a good job cleaning.  I wouldn't come here unless it was my only choice.…查看更多

My favorite wonton noodle spot in Hong Kong

There are plenty of spots that serve wonton noodles, but this specific location of Mak An Kee is my favorite.  There is also their competitor Tsim Tsai Kee not too far that also serves great wonton noodles but in a different style.  Mak An Kee is your old school breakfast spot and Tsim Tsai Kee is a new school (more hip) breakfast spot.  They're both worth trying, but I think the wontons from Mak An Kee is better as the wrap is the softest and smoothest I've had in Hong Kong.  The soup is also very clear and tasty. …查看更多

I was told that Tim Ho Wan is a must try for tourists much like myself. So I decided to go around noon on Sunday. I was warned about the wait, but I decided to go anyways. Surprisingly, I only waited for 30 minutes or so.Tim Ho Wan owns the title of being the cheapest Michelin star restaurant in the world. It’s true… I ordered 8 dishes and paid 20 USD. You can’t ask for a better price than that. If you don’t mind the wait, it’s a great place to eat. Not just for tourists… The congee to me was the most memorable as I am not a fan of their signature dishes, such as the pineapple bun and vermicelli roll. It was not too thick and not to watery. Everything is good at BEP. The portions are very fair and the soups are very tasty. My favorite is the Bun Rieu (Tomato soup with Crab). Their pho is also very good and their pork broth is very rich.
