It moved to this small alley in Sai Kung old town before Covid. And this is one of my favourite small restaurants in local community. Lots of cheese from all over the world. Shop owner Ronald is an expert and you could ask him whatever related to the cheese and wine. And one thing you should not miss is their cheese platter. Haven’t written any comment in Open Rice for years. I believe this restaurant’s experience do have the “honour” to make me write again. I used to go to this restaurant, maybe 2-3 times a year. Not many people tonight. I went with my wife and we can walk in at around 8:30. I was so surprised by the price of the dishes. It is increased a lot. Maybe that’s the curse of being labelled as Michelin starred restaurant. We ordered 士多啤梨骨，大良炒鮮奶，上湯豆苗。The first 2 are supposed to be the signature dishes which we almost always order. But the taste was just so so. We finished the dishes in less than an hour. Calling for a bill and paid by cash. The waitress, whom i recognised has been working in this restaurant for years, gave me back my change. It was $3 but she yelled out “找錢” when she put the change down, which was totally unnecessary and rude. I, of course, took every dollars and left no tips, which they definitely didn’t deserve a cent. Went there few day ago at dinner time.The restaurant was not as crowded as I was expecting, probably it's because it's Monday. My wife and I shared a starter size of Spanish Ham. It's really delicious. Some kind of oak smell from it and the proportion of fat inside is good. It just went well with the red wine.The salad was also unexpectely big in portion if you considered it's price. The roasted pork leg was also juicy. The skin was not as crispy as the Chinese ones but I still love it very much. Porbably it's because the pork was not as fatty as the Chinese ones. One minor comment here was that they don't serve plain ice water. Either you choose the distill one or the gas one. Or you can have hot water, then you don't need to pay for that. I am not so sure why I didn't like this restaurant everytime I walked our from it. May be it's just my bad luck. Definitely, my experience contradicts with most of the critics here about this restaurant.The food was fine. I liked the ham most. Other dish like spaghetti and veal were also quite nice. At least, it's up to the standard it should be. I won't expect the food to be disappointing for a "supposed-to-be" top end restaurant. The thing that disappoint me the most is the service. I could not really pinpoint the thing they had or had not done which irritates me. But it's just they are not sincere. They even didn't give you any kind of advice on their food. Am I suppose to know your food? May be I am expecting a warmer atmosphere. May be they are setting up a "high but cool" envioronment just like a palace. May be it's just everytime it happened to be a VIP party in the private room and the waiters were too busy taking care of them. After came back from Italy Tuscany a month ago, it seems that I am addicted to the Italian food and wine. Every week I find if any one of the Italian restaurant is up to the task to call back my sweet memory in Italy. (Just like the ending of film Ratatouille)2 weeks ago, I went to Toscana (Not Tuscany). Damn! The only memory there was so-so but expensive. The service there was definitely below standard. But probably it's because of Toscana, I found Aspasia is definitely much worthy. My wife and I went on Friday's night. Fully-booked. Luckily we booked the table 1 week in advance. The service was good. Waiters were attentive, polite and wear the smile all the time. At least, they won't give you a long face when you ask for tap water instead of the Pellegrino or Panna like some other "top-end" Italian restaurant.We both tried the salami and proscuitto starter. Nice selection and goes well with the few pieces of cheese. Definitely it nearly resemble the feeling in Italy when I had a taste of the glass of Italian wine. (I order the Rosso di Montelchino, not something expensive but definitley one of the best table wine I tried in Italy) Side-tract a little, they have quite a extensive wine list and you can choose from few hundred dolloars to few thousand ones.They also have quite a number of wines by glass. First course i tried the spaghetti with crab. In fact my favourite spahetti is Alio E Olio (spaghetti with garlic and olive oil) Unfortunately, they don't have that and I order this one cause it seems to be the closest to what I like. The dish didn't fail me. The second course I tried the lamb rack. The meat was tender and grilled just right to the point I want it. Although honestly speaking, I have tried better lamb in other place. But it's already have done a good job concluding my dinner.Just one minor thing I didn't like, or should I say didn't match my expectation, is that it is a contemporary ristorante. One thing, if you don't have the entree club membership, it is really expensive restaurant. And it can only be considered a little bit more reasonable if you have a dinner with another one cause it will be 50% off if you have the entree club membership. And one more thing, the wine is not included into the club privilege.My wife and I go to this restaurant about once per month. Although this restaurant is supposed to be a seafood restaurant but I love their prime rib. My wife, on the other hand, is a big fan of their seafood, especially the fresh oysters. Generally, their quality of food is above average.Yesterday, I changed my taste a little bit because they had a special promotion of Dungeness crab. With 50% discount, one just needed to pay $194 for this huge crab. Crab is big and really fresh. I just asked them to cook it with butter and the taste was manificient. Last night, we also ordered a seafood tower. Although we can finish it all but I guess it may be too much for 2. In this kind of weather, the best is of course go to hot pot. I haven't heard of this place in the past. But after I tried if for the first time 2 month ago, I have been here for 3 times. The attitude of the staff is not that bad. May be I was lucky. And I just ordered the 象拔蚌shashimi once. The other 2 times, I just order the ordinary food like beef, vegetables, etc, etc. things that are commonly for hotpot. The waitress seemed to be fine. Once, I needed to give them the table at 8:00pm. When I left, they said, "sorry about this...", "if you want, we could arrange another table for you ah..." things like that. I've seen the other comment. And I didn't see one ordered the 牛腋. I am not a professional in beef but I believe this is probably the best beef I had ever had for hotpot in HK. Everytime I order one for myself. Even my wife basically does not eat beef try 1-2 pieces each time. I also like to order the 牛腰each time. I guess it's the kidney part. Very tasty indeed.花蝦is another dish I always order. 1 is good enough for 1 person. I just threw the head and the tail into the hotpot and they still tasted superb. My wife just eats the shrimp fresh but I like to boil it for 10 seconds and still taste like fresh. One warning, if you order seafood, they are real expensive. Many of my Japanese friends know this place and like to dine here from time to time. I presumed it must be up to standard (at least up to the standard of Japaneses themselves)I've been here for a few times only.Food are basically good taste and not really expensive. My reason to go to Dan Ryan is because of their Muffin and their chiken wings. Of course my wife loves their salad because it is big enough to serve as her main dish. I don't like to go there during weekend 'cause they are always full of people and you need to wait. And I think the service is somewhat related to the workload. The more the workload, the poorer the altitude. The striploin I oredered this time was just OK. Although I ordered a medium rare one, I guess that one was a medium one. Last Friday I tried to book a table for 2 for dinner at 6:30pm that night. To my surprise, they've got a table. But anyway, nearly all tables were occupied when I was dining. I got few impressions after I finished my dinner there.1. They served the food real fast. Is that the way American do things? Or is it just HK? I haven't had the chance to go to the one in LA but I guess even other American restaurant in HK do not serve food as fast as they do. Bascially, my wife and I finished our dinner within 1 hour. And that include the salad, the main course with 2 side dishes and 1 dessert. Usually, I could enjoy 2 glasses of wine at dinner but this time, I still got a bit left in my first glass when I start eating my dessert. 2. The prime rib is quite good. Juicy and tender. I just had the English cut (8 oz?). 3 thin cuts. Probably one of the best you could find in town. The sauce they provided was also nice. Not too strong which ruin the taste of the meat. 3. The dessert is so and so. I tried the chocolate cake. Very traditional american one. That means sweet and BIG. Unless you are a big fan of dessert, sharing one with your friend is not a bad idea. 4. Not too many choices if you or your friend is not a meat lover. My wife had the fish. It tasted OK But I guess you could not expect much. But the first glance of the menu gave me a headache. Probably it's beacause I don't have many options especially for the starters. In conclusion, if you are a one in pure pursuit of prime rib, this place won't disappoint you. This is the first time I write something in the openrice. Unfortuntely, I am really bad in computer chinese writing and sorry about this.Back to business, I just went there last week on Friday. Full-house. The G/F was packed with Gweilo and Gweipor. Upstairs, 3 tables were Chinese but 1 of them also spoke English. And it seemed that no waiter or waitress could speak Cantonese. (Anyway, I haven't explored this in detail)It seemed that one of the previous comment: "...no beef cappaccio.." is not true. On the contrary, I guess it's probably one of the best I've tried in HK. It's even better than that of Sabatini or Mistral. (I forgot what it tasted like in Nicolini's but it's definitely better than that of Incontro)Mushroom soup was OK. They are having some kind of shell fish promotion in the mean time. I have had half of maine lobster and 2 scallop with black rice. I think it's just up to the standard of a fine Italian restaurant. My wife ordered a fish. They ccould pick the bone out for you. Although I dont' like fish, it still tasted good to me. Guess the fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. I think I would not go there in the near future. If you could pay about $500 each person, there are actually a lot of Italian cuisines in HK that provide similar or even better service and food.…查看更多
