After vacation in the US where we ate nonstop huge amounts of gluttony, boyfriend and I returned to the world of Hong Kong. I wanted something a bit more humble and clean for my meals lately. Boyfriend mentioned a new vegetarian buffet place near his home so we decided to try it out.日常素食 (English name: Daily Green) is located in the mall right next to Wong Tai Sin Temple. They offer a vegetarian buffet that are priced according to lunch, afternoon tea or dinner session. There is no 10% service
日常素食 (English name: Daily Green) is located in the mall right next to Wong Tai Sin Temple. They offer a vegetarian buffet that are priced according to lunch, afternoon tea or dinner session. There is no 10% service charge. They also offer a la carte for those that don't want to do the buffet. Another added bonus is you can just do take away of the buffet items for very decent price. You get a box and you fill it up as much as you can. We saw a few of the residents in the neighbourhood doing just that.
The space is very open in the mall. Seating is spacious and the buffet area is on one side. After you are finished, you bring your all your empty plates, etc to one area and you pay on the way out.
There a number of hot food items covered and warmed well in the central buffet section. All items were labeled in Chinese only. There is no English available.
This is the cold drinks and desserts corner.
They also had various soup and hot dessert soup along with hot drinks as well. I tried one of the daily soups: carrot, Buddhist melon and corn soup. It was very sweet and felt very homestyle.
A varying array of steam buns and desserts.
The salad and fruit bar.
They also had fried items to keep boyfriend happy. They even had his favorite vegetarian dish: taro fish which he gave a thumbs up as the paste was perfectly mushy.
The fried items were a good decent selection. The winner to point out was the crispy beancurd roll. That was really excellent and not too oily as well.
Cold items were varied. The vegetarian jelly fish was interesting and I quite liked it.
Tried a bit of everything and the food was not too salty and not too oily as well. Most of the flavor was not overly strong and definitely good for people who don't like eating food that is too salty. The hot items were more traditional. More focused on tofu and mushrooms. Actual vegetables. No imitation meat. So different than the other vegetarian buffets in Hong Kong that have opened here where they focus on more fancier items. It's not so here. Just basic vegetarian items where you know exactly what you are putting into your mouth. No guessing games.
Desserts were traditional, too. No cakes like the other places we've been to. Just traditional Chinese desserts.
The food was quite good. Not too salty but still enough flavor to please that palate. I liked that this place focused on traditional Chinese vegetarian meals. No pseudo meat and sushi that sometimes I wonder what they used to make it and how much food coloring they put into it. This wasn't the case here. These were traditional and home style. Nothing fancy at all. There was a wide selection with only one selection of noodles and fried rice. This is good, too, as I've been to one where most of the choices were fried rice and noodles. Items were constantly refilled as well. Prices not expensive. A good option for vegetarian and I'll be sure to tell my vegetarian/vegan friends about this if they want to visit the very popular tourist attraction next door.
