Boyfriend and I decided to explore an area of town that we rarely if ever go to. And that was Lam Tin. It was there we found some interesting looking eateries but we were a bit tired so chose this place for dinner. There seemed to be several residents eating inside so why not?The place is called Viet & Thai and they serve mostly Thai style dishes. Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. I had a Hainan chicken rice ($53). It looked decent. But wow ... was it terrible. The rice was dry and bland. The chicken was super oily but also bland. Absolutely no flavor at all. Portion was big but this was probably the worst Hainan chicken I've had in Hong Kong.
Boyfriend had the beef curry rice ($50). It looked fine but it appeared they just poured curry sauce on top of everything as the sauce and ingredients were evenly distributed and the bottom was a bit cold. The sauce also had no flavor except for spicy. No other flavor was detected.
The worst was boyfriend's drink. I chose a safe choice of ice lemon tea. But he decided to fork out $11 for a Thai style drink. A coconut green bean drink. And here's the thing .. the green bean paste was just one big clump. It was so hard and stuck together, boyfriend couldn't mix it apart. It just go stuck into his straw.
Large portions and definitely not expensive. But wow ... one of the worst Thai food I've had in Hong Kong so far. Definitely would not be back.
